Hotel Review: Hilton Capital Grand Abu Dhabi

Our stay at the Hilton Capital Grand in Abu Dhabi was not a normal one. We had a layover in Abu Dhabi and arrived early the morning. Sadly, we also had to leave the hotel again at midnight. Was it worth paying for just 16 hours in the hotel? Definitely! The Hilton Capital Grand has not only amazing rooms, but also great service and good food. The location is the only weakness.

I honestly don’t expect too much when staying at a Hilton hotel. Even though many of the hotels are five star properties, there is a reason why there are two “better” brands in the Hilton family (Waldorf Astoria and Conrad). After a stay at the Hilton Capital Grand Abu Dhabi, I have to admit: I was wrong.

  • Classification: Five Star
  • Room Category: Superior One Bedroom Suite
  • Month of Stay: November

This hotel review features the newer Hilton (there is another one in Abu Dhabi).

Lovely little welcome treatment

Lovely little welcome treatment

It is not only a place with a unique design, but also a luxury hotel that offers everything you need for a city stay. Moreover, the Hilton Capital Grand Abu Dhabi got the best rooms I’ve ever seen in a Hilton property.

Stunning suite with a unique design

When we arrived at the Hilton Capital Grand, it was still early in the morning. Anyway, the hotel tried its best to get a room ready for us. We had to wait for a little more than an hour, but were granted lounge access (HH Gold).

After enjoying another breakfast (we already had one in the Etihad Airways Arrivals Lounge), we were given the keys for our room.

And it was just perfect. Even though we didn’t book anything special, we got an amazing suite located on a high floor. Large windows, interesting layout (everything is round at the Hilton Capital Grand) and lovely interior.

And the size, more than 90 square meters, is just amazing. Not to forget about the bathroom that was not only big as well, but furnished with so much eye for the detail. I was just thrilled after seeing this room. We even had a second bathroom and a walk-in closet.

I could lose more words about the stunning room in this hotel review, but as the other facilities of the hotel are great as well, it’s time to go on.

Great food at the Hilton Capital Grand

As we spent approximately 16 hours at the Hilton Capital Grand Abu Dhabi, we had the pleasure to check out the executive lounge more than just once.

Breakfast was a nice little buffet with a good service.

What was even more amazing was the afternoon tea that consisted of several sweet treats, all very tasty and lovely decorated. Moreover, drinks are available for free all day long.

We skipped the dinner buffet (we had dinner in the city), but judging from what I saw in the trays, it looked really good as well. Even though the lounge is not really big, it never felt crowded and there were enough areas to either lounge, work (several computers) or eat.

Judging from our earlier hotel reviews about Hilton properties, unquestionably one of the best lounges of the Hilton chain.

Huge spa with male and female areas

The Hilton Capital Grand Abu Dhabi is not only an amazing luxury hotel when it comes to the room, but also because of its spa. We didn’t expect more than just an outdoor pool (we’ve seen that one on a photo), but there was a huge indoor spa as well.

Indoor Swimming Pool

Although the outdoor pool was already closed, I was invited to swim some laps and it was absolutely enjoyable. The temperature of the pool is just right and the length of every lap is amazing. After that, we went on to the indoor spa (it is opened way longer).

The areas are separated for men and women, so you can’t enter the area with your partner.

Anyway, you’ll feel recreated after leaving the spa again. Water sensation areas (indoor pool with waves and a cold water “circle”), a steam bath and a recreation area with complimentary fruits and water.

As I didn’t expect much of the spa, I was more than just amazed. The area is absolutely beautiful and worth a visit for sure (it’s complimentary).

A few weakness of the Hilton Capital Grand

Even though we loved our stay at the Hilton Capital Grand, there were some weaknesses as well. For example, the communication between the reception staff and the lounge staff didn’t work, so we had to ask for our room keys several times. Moreover, there was a weird smell in our room for the entire stay. Last but not least, the location is a little weakness as well.

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is around the corner, but the city center is a ten minute drive (reachable only by taxi or car) away. If you can accept that, the “new” Hilton Abu Dhabi is worth a recommendation for sure. As the hotel was built under management of the Rocco Forte Group, the facilities are way better than at most Hilton properties. That makes the Hilton Grand Capital Abu Dhabi the best Hilton I’ve ever stayed at and I was really looking forward to writing this hotel review after my departure. Try it, because you’ll love it for sure!

  3. Wow, this hotel sounds amazing! I’m so impressed that they gave you this lovely suite even when you hadn’t booked it as such and even though it was a brief stay! What a lovely way to enjoy the layover and looks like you really managed to make the most of the hotel in that time! I love the round concept of the rooms and the welcome treat is always a lovely touch but you know, I had never even realised that the Conrad hotels were part of the Hilton group! You learn something new everevery day ☺

    • We were impressed by that upgrade as well! As HH Gold members, we are used to small upgrades, but this one was special indeed! Talking of the hotel, it was a Rocco Forte before. That’s why it has such amazing rooms and such a great design! Thanks for commenting 🙂
