Hotel Review: Schlosshotel Velden

It’s been some time that I stayed at the Schlosshotel Velden, but I still got many positive aspects in mind when thinking of the hotel. The luxury hotel, which is located in the South of Austria, was renovated just a few years ago and though offers beautifully appointed rooms and a huge spa area. In summer, you may even decide to have a swim in the Wörthersee.

My stay at the Schlosshotel Velden started with a blow. When arriving, I was offered an upgrade to a suite. Not for a one night, not for a two night, but for a five night stay. It was not only a small upgrade, but a suite upgrade.

  • Classification: Five Star
  • Room Category: Tower Suite
  • Month of Stay: April

Was that the only positive aspect of my stay? Not at all. The spa area is huge, offering an indoor and an outdoor pool. Moreover, there are different saunas and steam bathes.

Last but not least, there is a selection of different lounging areas. Anything more? Yes, the food! Everything tasted good, but at times, I was a little disappointed by the service.

Overall, I’m of the opinion that a hotel review of the Schlosshotel Velden definitely is valuable for our readers even though I stayed at the hotel many months ago.

Large suite and beautiful interior design

The tower suite I surprisingly got at the Schlosshotel Velden was a duplex one. On the lower floor, there was the living room which alone was larger than many rooms I got in other hotels.

The design of the room was lovely with modern furniture and beautiful colors. The sofa and the armchairs in the living room were of a high quality and really comfortable, so was the working table. The bedroom, located in the upper floor next to a marble bathroom, was a little smaller.

Yet, it was big enough to commode a large bed which was really comfortable as well. Another positive aspect about the room is the minibar. This one was included in our rate and it was filled with several soft drinks of our choice.

Even the standard rooms I had a look at, were amazing (Image Source: The Leading Hotels of the World / lhw.com)

The best point about it: It was refilled every day. Absolutely perfect. Anyway, the room didn’t have sea view. That was a little downer, but apart from that, I loved the room!

Time to recreate at the Schlosshotel Velden

As my stay at the Schlosshotel Velden was a holiday one, recreation was the key element.

Due to that, I spent much time in the gym and the spa area. The gym was really modern and had several state-of-the-art machines. The view on the Wörthersee was beautiful and the machines were all very modern. There was even a whole area with free weights and more machines for strength training. Yet, the spa area itself was even more amazing. It’s tough to say what I liked the most.

The indoor pool was not too large, but absolutely fine for laps. Yet, I liked the outdoor one way more. Even though I stayed at the hotel in April, swimming outside was lovely. The spa area of the Schlosshotel Velden allows to enter the outdoor pool from the inside, so you don’t have to get out into the cold area.

Saunas, steam baths and a beach club

Moreover, the outdoor pool is heated which makes swimming amazing even when it’s freezing outside. As soon as you get enough of swimming, you’ll absolutely enjoy to spend some time at one of the lounging areas. There are loungers, beds and even seduced areas for couples.

Last but not least, it’s worth a mention that there also is a huge choice of saunas and steam bathes in the spa of the Schlosshotel Velden. Did I have the feeling that anything is missing in the spa area? Not really, but in luxury hotels, I usually expect nuts or fruits to be free in the spa area. In Velden, there is only water available free of charge. For everything else, you need to pay in the spa.

Nowadays, you may also enjoy the beach club when staying at the luxurious Schlosshotel Velden in summer. When I stayed there, it was not opened yet. For the hotel review, I just had a little look on the location. It’s really nice, so I’m sure that one will be really enjoyable as well.

Dining with a view and enjoying breakfast

My rate at the Schlosshotel Velden also included half board. That means that I can also review the quality of the food offered. At breakfast, the choice was okay, but not too impressive for a luxurious holiday resort. The dinner menu though was really nice.

Especially during the holidays (Eastern), there was a huge menu with seven dishes every evening. On the other days, they offered five courses which was absolutely fine for me. The quality of everything, at breakfast and at dinner, was high.

Everything tasted very good, but there was not much variety. Neither at dinner nor at breakfast. Also, the service was a little sloppy. Anyway, I overall enjoyed the food at Schlosshotel Velden. It was not the best part of my stay, but a good one as well.

Worth a recommendation: Schlosshotel Velden

I’d fully recommend staying at the Schlosshotel Velden. A little downer was the level of service in low season. At times there was nobody at the reception and also in the restaurant not everything worked out perfectly. Apart from that, everything was amazing: The quality of food, the great spa and the wonderful room. Even standard rooms (I had a look at one) are large and beautifully appointed.

Checking out the current rates of the Schlosshotel Velden, I recognized a slight rise of prices. Nowadays, you usually pay the same amount for a rate with breakfast as I did for a rate with half board some time ago. Yet, I feel like the reason for that is a good utilization. The prices still seem very fair for what is offered, so I can guarantee you that you’ll have a great stay!
