The Jakarta International Airport rarely is the most convenient one when it comes to flying. Many areas are old and especially at nighttime, hardly any shops are open. Lucky as we are, we had the pleasure to spend an hour at the Garuda Indonesia Business Class Lounge that made our time before departure way more comfortable.
In a lounge review, we usually take into consideration at what time of the day we have visited a lounge. At the Garuda Indonesia Lounge at Jakarta International Airport, the time didn’t matter at all. Even though it was around midnight, the buffet still was big enough and the atmosphere was good.
While other lounges were already closed, the staff at the Garuda Indonesia Lounge did neither seem tired nor inattentive.
A really good experience that needs to be stressed especially in this lounge review.
When entering the Garuda Indonesia Lounge, it looks like the only seating spots available are in an area without natural light. But after strolling around a little, you’ll recognize that there are several areas in the huge lounge. Due to that, many seats are located on a huge glass front that is facing the tarmac.
Some loungers are located right at the glass front for those who want to watch the bustle at the Jakarta International Airport. Dozens of leather loungers are in the back, yet offering a nice view of the tarmac and enough light at daytime.
In our case, the factor of nature light and tarmac view was not of big importance as we were in the lounger at midnight. The seating though was really comfortable and there were enough plugs right at the seats.
The choice of food in the Garuda Indonesia Lounge was not exactly spectacular. Other lounges, for example the Etihad Lounges at Abu Dhabi International Airport, do offer a way richer choice.
Yet, there was enough choice to have a nice snack before departing. Next to sweet and savory snacks, there were soups and rice dishes available at the buffet. The choice of soft drinks was huge. Alcohol was only available at a bar area.
We didn’t try a drink, but what we saw looked promising. When coming to the lounge late, it’s recommendable to order a drink when you arrive as the staff is about to close the bar at midnight.
In other lounge reviews, we mentioned special features like a spa in the lounge. The Garuda Indonesia Lounge does not have any special amenities for passengers. Yet, there is a choice of newspapers and magazines available. Also, wireless internet is free of charge and the speed is just fine. Moreover, it’s worth a mention that the Garuda Indonesia Business Class Lounge offers showers in some restrooms.
Especially for connection flight passengers, this feature is a really nice one. Showers and toilet facilities were modern and clean. All in all, the Garuda Indonesia Lounge at Jakarta International Airport, that also offers a First Class area, is really convenient. It may not be one of the best lounges in the world, but it’s okay for spending one or another hour before departing to your destination.
