Hotel Preview: The Azure Qiantang

The Azure Qiantang is one of the newest additions to the Luxury Collection of Starwood. Located in the central business district of Hangzhou, right at Qiantang River, the hotel is an ideal spot for business and leisure travelers alike. The features of The Azure Qiantang include a large gym, an indoor pool and two restaurants with a great view of the river.

In Europe, most hotels that are a member of the Luxury Collection are old buildings that mostly got renovated in the last years. In China, however, things are a little different. The Azure Qiantang, the latest addition to Starwood’s Luxury Collection in China, is a modern hotel with a very special design.

With 205 rooms, the luxury hotel is neither one of the biggest nor one of the larger hotels in Hangzhou, yet it adds a new kind of luxury to the city!

More than enough space to spread out

The new kind of luxury in Hangzhou starts with the size of the rooms. At The Azure Qiantang, all rooms are generously sized.

Premier Rooms (located on higher floors) offer a better view, while Signature Rooms offer the by far best views being located in the corners of each floor.

Moreover, there are several suites that offer even more space and great special amenities at The Azure Qiantang.

The color scheme is very interesting as the hotel is focusing on blue to make every room look very “Azure”. Due to that, the rooms look more classic than they are.

Chinese and international cuisine with a view

The Azure Qiantang tries its best to establish itself as one of the best hotels in Hangzhou.

The two restaurants of The Azure are a key element in this strategy. Both are located on the top floors of the hotel and though offer great views of the Qiantang River. “Lan Ting” is the elegant Chinese restaurant of the hotel, while the “Panorama Bar & Restaurant” follows an international approach offering dishes from all around the world.

It’s also a good spot to have a drink in the evening or to grab a snack at daytime. Meanwhile, the Lobby Lounge located on the ground floor is perfectly suitable for business meetings in a casual atmosphere.

Enjoyable pool at The Azure Qiantang

After a long working day, many people are in need of relaxation. The heated indoor pool of The Azure Qiantang makes this possible.

Located on the ground floor, offering views of the garden, the pool is a real oasis. If that’s not enough, there is also a Spa area with a sauna, a steam bath and a whirlpool. After relaxation and a good night sleep, another thing may be of key importance for many travelers: A good gym.

The newest member of the Luxury Collection got a large one with many state-of-the-art machines. Like the pool, it also offers views of the lush gardens.

Expensive luxury for Hangzhou

While the facilities and the very unique style of The Azure Qiantang in Hangzhou really look good, the price does not. Rates are starting at 960 CNY (~ 140 Euro / 155 US-Dollar) excluding taxes and services. While the price different to higher room categories is slightly low, the extra charge for breakfast is pretty decent.

Rates including breakfast are seldom available for less than 1.500 CNY (~ 220 Euro / 240 US-Dollar) excluding taxes and services. Much money for one of many luxury hotels in Hangzhou. If you decide to spend a night at The Azure Qiantang, you have to love the hotel’s design or the great view!
