There are some cities in Europe where the choice of the right luxury hotel is more than just tough. Rome is one of these cities as there are dozens of good hotels that all try to attract guests. Now open for almost three years, the Gran Meliá Rome proved itself to be one of the best addresses in the city. The reason for many positive reviews is easy: The Gran Meliá in Rome perfectly combines leisure with business just five minutes away from the St. Peter’s Basilica.
Rome is a city with a huge history. Due to that, it’s not any surprising that the Gran Meliá Rome is located in a historic setting. The Villa Agrippinia and the large gardens around once were the land of the emperors. The history of the area dates back to Nero who shaped history like few other people on this planet. But the history is hardly everything that makes the Gran Meliá Rome one of the best luxury hotels in the city.
The luxury resort is located in a large garden area that makes you feel like making holidays. That feeling is strengthened by the fact that the hotel got a huge Spa area with beautiful pool areas. Even though that sounds like a location far away from the city center, all major spots in Rome can be reached by foot. St. Peter’s Basilica for example is only a five minute walk away.
Many luxury hotels in Rome are known for having small rooms that mostly don’t offer great views. At the Gran Meliá Rome, guests don’t have to fear to get a “broom closet”.
The lowest room category called Deluxe Room got 23 square meters (248 square feet) and offers views of lush gardens. Several other room categories are larger and offer even more amazing views (of the city for example). Some, the Supreme Rooms for example, even got a little private garden.
Guests that book a RedLevel room may also enjoy Club Access and other special features. Many RedLevel rooms and suites got private terraces, whirlpools and more. These rooms usually are also a little more spacious, ranging from 33 square meters (355 square feet) to 85 square meters (915 square feet).
In total, the Gran Meliá Rome offers more than a dozen room categories – all with unique features.
A good luxury hotel in Rome needs more than just good and spacious rooms to attract guests. The Gran Meliá does so by offering amazing food at the restaurant Viva Voce. The food is inspired by Mediterranean influences that perfectly fit into a hotel operated by the Spanish hotel chain Meliá.
However, the Gran Meliá is not only known for great cuisine in the restaurant, but also for a unique atmosphere in the “Liquid Garden”, the casual bar and restaurant located poolside. Known as a hotspot for the wealthy inhabitants and guests of the Gran Meliá alike, the Liquid Garden is a real oasis in the hustle of the city.
Next to creative drinks, there are also light meals and snacks available. However, enjoying a good drink at the Gran Meliá may not be limited to summer time as also “The Library” and the “Nectar Bar” invite hotel guests for a unique experience.
The Library is known for its selection of sweet delights and its Afternoon Tea, while the Nectar Bar is the perfect location for an after-work drink in casual atmosphere.
Everybody who thinks about luxury hotels in Rome will instantly have the idea of an old palace in a little street in mind.
A thing most people won’t think about is a large swimming pool, lush gardens and a Spa dedicated to finest treatments. All this shows perfectly that the Gran Meliá Rome is not a hotel like the others in the city. The new luxury resort got one of the largest pool areas in Rome and offers guests the choice of dozens of different treatments at the YHI Spa.
Moreover, guests of the hotel can enjoy a sauna, a steam bath, a vitality pool, a relaxation area and a fully equipped gym. There is hardly anything guests of the Gran Meliá Rome will miss.
Luxury hotels in Rome have always been expensive, but the Gran Meliá Rome is more than just that. Rooms are usually available starting at rates of 375 Euro (~ 395 US-Dollar) a night. That’s a lot of money, even compared to other five star hotels in the city.
Unique rooms like the one with a private garden are available from 500 Euro (~ 530 US-Dollar) a night. For Red Level access, guests of the Gran Meliá Rome have to pay 645 Euro (~ 680 US-Dollar). All the mentioned rates exclude breakfast, but include taxes and services.
The prices may vary heavily depending on the date of arrival. All in all, the newest Gran Meliá hotel in Italy is anything but cheap. However, the stunning experience at the new luxury hotel may be worth it!
