Hotel Preview: Gran Meliá Rome

There are some cities in Europe where the choice of the right luxury hotel is more than just tough. Rome is one of these cities as there are dozens of good hotels that all try to attract guests. Now open for almost three years, the Gran Meliá Rome proved itself to be one of the best addresses in the city. The reason for many positive reviews is easy: The Gran Meliá in Rome perfectly combines leisure with business just five minutes away from the St. Peter’s Basilica.

Rome is a city with a huge history. Due to that, it’s not any surprising that the Gran Meliá Rome is located in a historic setting. The Villa Agrippinia and the large gardens around once were the land of the emperors. The history of the area dates back to Nero who shaped history like few other people on this planet. But the history is hardly everything that makes the Gran Meliá Rome one of the best luxury hotels in the city.

The luxury resort is located in a large garden area that makes you feel like making holidays. That feeling is strengthened by the fact that the hotel got a huge Spa area with beautiful pool areas. Even though that sounds like a location far away from the city center, all major spots in Rome can be reached by foot. St. Peter’s Basilica for example is only a five minute walk away.

The perfect room for everyone

Many luxury hotels in Rome are known for having small rooms that mostly don’t offer great views. At the Gran Meliá Rome, guests don’t have to fear to get a “broom closet”.

The lowest room category called Deluxe Room got 23 square meters (248 square feet) and offers views of lush gardens. Several other room categories are larger and offer even more amazing views (of the city for example). Some, the Supreme Rooms for example, even got a little private garden.

These rooms usually are also a little more spacious, ranging from 33 square meters (355 square feet) to 85 square meters (915 square feet).

In total, the Gran Meliá Rome offers more than a dozen room categories – all with unique features.

Perfect for a drink in summer and winter

A good luxury hotel in Rome needs more than just good and spacious rooms to attract guests. The Gran Meliá does so by offering amazing food at the restaurant Viva Voce. The food is inspired by Mediterranean influences that perfectly fit into a hotel operated by the Spanish hotel chain Meliá.

However, the Gran Meliá is not only known for great cuisine in the restaurant, but also for a unique atmosphere in the “Liquid Garden”, the casual bar and restaurant located poolside. Known as a hotspot for the wealthy inhabitants and guests of the Gran Meliá alike, the Liquid Garden is a real oasis in the hustle of the city.
