Ivy Boutique Hotel – Chicago’s most stylish hotel is located just a few steps away from the renowned Michigan Avenue. While only being rated four star, Ivy Boutique Hotel offers rooms that are definitely a class above many five star hotels. On other levels, the hotel may not be quite as good as some others in Chicago, but if you love stunning suites, you’ll also love Ivy Boutique Hotel!

Chicago has many luxury hotels, but only some are really special. One of these is the independent Ivy Boutique Hotel located between Michigan Avenue and the Chicago Lakeshore.
The location of Ivy Boutique Hotel is also great as you may enjoy shopping just steps away. Not to forget about the many restaurants that are located right next or opposite of Ivy Boutique Hotel.
However, Ivy Boutique Hotel feels a little like an apartment hotel rather than a full service one.
With just 63 rooms in total, Ivy Boutique Hotel is one of the smallest luxury properties in Chicago.
Our King Suite was surprisingly spacious with 672 square feet (63 square meters) and was separated in three areas.
We really liked the idea of having a dedicated entrance area, a bedroom and a living room.
The separation of the areas worked quite good without any doors which made the bedroom (located in the middle without any windows) a little more airy than it would be with doors. The large King Bed was very comfortable, but what we liked even more was the large couch in the living area.
A solid working desk and a little kitchenette complemented the interior of our King Suite at the Ivy Boutique Hotel. Something not to write home about is the view which was quite boring.
Even though we just left The Langham Chicago before checking in to Ivy Boutique Hotel, we were not disappointed about the room.
That’s especially true as also the bathroom was really luxurious. Marble elements, a large sink, a huge bathtub and a separated shower make the bathroom of the King Suite at Ivy Boutique a little Spa oasis.
Even though it was a little weird to see that the dispensers of shampoo etc. were refilled and had several signs of usage, we liked the idea in terms of environmental protection.
Another nice touch was the availability of mouth wash, a sponge and cotton pads – something many other four star properties don’t offer.
Ivy Boutique Hotel itself does neither offer a Spa area nor a gym. However, there is a partnership with LA Fitness that’s located five to ten minutes away by foot.
Not a huge problem, but not really comfortable without a shuttle. LA Fitness itself is quite decent with hundreds of machines for cardio and strength training as well as a large swimming pool. There is also a sauna that you may use after your workout.
The machines are a little old, but are well maintained. Even though I’m a fan of hotel owned gyms, I liked the idea of a partnership in this case as Ivy Boutique Hotel itself is a very small hotel that just doesn’t have any space for a gym.
On the bottom line, Ivy Boutique Hotel is quite good for a stay in Chicago. In my opinion, the service could improve and the number of employees (we did only stumble upon three while staying at Ivy Boutique Hotel) is way too low.
We had to wait for check-in and check-out for someone to show up and the bar in the lobby seems to be managed by the doorman. As we didn’t try food or drinks, we can’t review the dining facilities, but for me, personally, they don’t looked very inviting.
Anyway, we’d definitely recommend Ivy Boutique Hotel when you are looking for a hotel with spacious and luxurious rooms in the city center of Chicago. The location and the partnership with LA Fitness make Ivy Boutique Hotel quite a good choice for business and sightseeing trips alike!

We just stayed one night. The suite accommodations were lovely. I felt the size of the room was generous for the price. The bath tub is luxurious and the products they leave for use such as mouth wash, shampoo, were excellent quality. Unfortunately, our door did not lock properly and we did not find this out until 10:30 at night. A repair person kept us up working on it until 11:45. Why we could not be moved to a new room is beyond me. Then in the morning when we went to breakfast….when we came back the door would not work so we could not get in to get our bags etc. Service was horrible. They had to pry our door open and basically gave us a sorry. When we checked out, they did take money off our final bill. Personally, the service lacks and if they r going to stay in business, they r going to have to learn a thing or to about customer service!
Hey Martin, thank you for your comment! That’s pretty much what was our impression, too. The hotel itself and the suites are gorgeous, but the service is subpar. I hope they’ll sort this out one day. It would definitely make the Ivy a hotel to come back to!
