Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest is well known for being one of the best luxury hotels in the Hungarian capital. During our stay, we experienced why the luxury hotel has such a good reputation as the staff tried its best to make us feel welcome. Something that makes luxury hotels like Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest special!
In December 2013, I stayed at Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest for the very first time. This stay on Christmas was very similar to our latest stay just a few months ago.
My impression of Kempsinki Hotel Corvinus Budapest did rarely change this year as I’m still of the impression that especially the rooms need to be refurbished rather sooner than later.
On the other hand, service was absolutely great this time as the staff even managed to bring back my lost luggage with a lot of effort.
Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest may not be perfect, but it stays a great choice for a trip to Budapest!
Lately, the lobby of Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest was refurbished, making the hotel look stylish when entering. Sadly, the modern design is nothing you’ll find in your room.
The Deluxe Room we stayed at this time came with a very traditional design. The furniture looks quite old and already has some scratches.
The size of our Deluxe Room at Kempsinki Hotel Corvinus Budapest was sufficient, but we missed several amenities we are used to from other luxury hotels. These included complimentary bottled water, coffee and tea making facilities and reading lamps.
Apart from that, the room was sufficient. The bed was comfortable, the working table had a good size and the chairs were decent as well.
We also enjoyed nice views of Erzsébet Park.
Something we already experienced at Kempinski Hotel Adlon Berlin is that Kempinski knows how to design a bathroom.
Even though the bathroom of our Deluxe Room at Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest was not very modern, it still had all the touches of a good luxury bathroom. Both, a toilet and shower were available on very little room.
Even though there was just a single sink, there was at least enough space for the stuff of two people. Moreover, there is a tub that’s still in a good condition even though it looks old.
The toiletries offered are Kempinski branded and are of good quality. All in all, the bathroom was the positive highlight of the Deluxe Room we were assigned to at Kempinski Hotel Corvinus.
What makes Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest a great choice for a trip to Budapest is the Spa area which offers a wide range of different options.
On the one hand, there is a wide range of treatments available for a charge. On the other hand, there are many complimentary options either.
These include a swimming pool, loungers equipped with headphones, magazines and newspapers as well as a sauna area with different saunas and steam baths.
While the sauna area is absolutely amazing for a city hotel, neither the size of the pool nor the number of loungers (6) is sufficient for a hotel as large as Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest. Especially in the evening, it is nearly impossible to secure a spot on one of the loungers.
The gym is not worth a special mention. It’s pretty small, but offers modern machines and a solid choice of free weights. Towels, apples and water are also included.
While I opted for the breakfast buffet when I stayed at Kempsinki Hotel Corvinus Budapest in 2013, we decided for the more relaxed Continental Breakfast this time.
The buffet breakfast is quite good as well with a wide range of different options and attentive stuff. Anyway, the Continental Breakfast was even.
It was rich as well with a nice fruit platter as a starter and a choice of coffee and tea as well as some freshly squeezed orange juice. You may choose a bread and pastries basket from a little buffet or let the waitress select for you (what we did).
Together with the basket, we were served a choice of butter and marmalade. As both, quality and seating were very good, too, we really liked the Continental Breakfast at Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest.
It is a little pricey, but a good alternative to the (even pricier) buffet, especially when you are looking for a relaxed start into the day.
Even though we loved breakfast in the Lobby Bar, the Afternoon Tea we had later the day was quite disappointing.
The service was lovely and attentive once again, but what was offered was nothing special. The choice of tea was good, but the food offered was nothing to write home about.
We asked for a hearty choice with few sweet items and got some sandwiches, special bread and a few pieces of apple strudel with vanilla sauce.
I also snapped a picture of the a little more satisfying Afternoon Tea I had in 2013. Sadly, this time the Afternoon Tea (which is pricey as well) didn’t step up to my prior experience.
I have to admit that Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest was the worst Kempinksi Hotel I stayed at so far, but that sounds harsher than it should as the two other hotels, Kempinski Hotel Adlon Berlin and Kempinski Hotel Das Tirol, were outstanding.
The Corvinus in Budapest instead offers a decent experience at a good location in the heart of the city with restaurants and shopping nearby. The rooms are clean and quiet, while being a little outdated and in need of a refurbishment. The Spa area is nice, but way too small for a hotel of this size.
Breakfast at Kempsinki Hotel Corvinus Budapest is outstanding, while the Afternoon Tea is just average. With some adjustment, Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest could be absolutely great. At the current state, it’s a good choice for a trip to Budapest nevertheless!
