Platinum Palace Wroclaw is one of the most modern hotels in the rising Polish city. Located a few kilometers away from the city center, Platinum Palace Wroclaw stands out for its location right by a large park in an old and iconic villa. Even though the design is modern, there are several shortcomings at Platinum Palace Wroclaw. At the same time, the value for the money is good.
Wroclaw has a solid and growing economy and becomes more and more important for business travelers.
Due to that, there are several luxury hotels in the city, one being Platinum Palace Wroclaw which is located a few kilometers away from the city center.
However, the connection to the city center by tram is very good, making the journey a short and enjoyable one.
From the outside, Platinum Palace Wroclaw definitely is stunning as the building is an old villa with a rich history. Behind the villa, there’s also a new wing which also houses rooms.
As we booked our stay via Hotwire, we were assigned a Standard Room in the main building of Platinum Palace Wroclaw.
This room is quite small and comes with an open plan bathroom. The latter is quite weird as the sink is located right in the room. The shower is a little detached, but may be watched instantly by everyone entering the room.
Only the toilet is separated by a door. Strange enough, the only toiletry available was body lotion. Shower gel and shampoo were put together in a large squeeze bottle in the shower.
Our room at Platinum Palace Wroclaw itself was nicely designed, yet too small for our taste. There were two small beds that were put together, equipped with three pillows and a thin blanket each.
Moreover, there was a small desk next to the wardrobe and the minibar. Right next to one of the two windows, we also had an armchair. Not to forget about the television in-between the bed and the working chair.
All in all, the room at Platinum Palace Wroclaw was acceptable due to the modern design and the good condition of the interior. On the other hand, the Standard Rooms are a little too small for a luxury hotel and lack a well-thought bathroom layout.
Platinum Palace Wroclaw offers its guests free access to a gym and a Spa area located on the ground floor of the modern wing.
The gym was a total disappointed as the only thing we found were three machines located in the hallway. Not only comfort, but also towels and common treats like apples were missing.
At least, the three machines (rowing machine, treadmill and bicycle) were modern. In comparison, the Spa was a really positive surprise. While only having four loungers, the atmosphere is quite comfortable and both, the sauna and the whirlpool, got the right temperature.
We also enjoyed the sauna which was a little special due to large windows with views of the whirlpool.
As we enjoyed dinner in the city, the only meal we had at Platinum Palace Wroclaw was breakfast. The first thing we recognized was that the staff was disorganized.
Sadly, all four tables on the terrace had already been taken, so we had to take a seat in the not very comfortable inside area right next to the buffet.
This one wasn’t bad, but at the same time something you’d expect at a three or four star hotel. Some fruits, some yoghurt, some cold cuts, a few special local treats, juices as well as scrambled eggs were presented in a nice way.
The quality was okay and may have been better if we’d ordered something from the menu available at the table. Sadly, we had no chance to do so as none of the waiters decided to ask us if we’d like something.
This meant that we didn’t get coffee or tea, too. Quite sad taking into account that there were four staff members “taking care” of eight guests.
Usually, we don’t have a special “service” category in our reviews. Yet, at Platinum Palace Wroclaw the bad service is worth a mention. We were disappointed to see that the staff was neither speaking proper English nor was very accommodating or friendly.
Our experiences at breakfast were just one example for the badly trained staff at Platinum Palace Wroclaw. Something that disappointed especially was the handling of noise at nighttime. As a wedding was taking place at Platinum Palace Wroclaw when we stayed at the hotel, there was heavy noise till 2 am in the morning.
The music was so loud that we were not even able to watch television as we didn’t get a word. Sleeping was something we could not even think of. Calling the front desk was a horrible experience as not only the language barrier, but especially the “I don’t care” mentality didn’t help us at all. At check-out there was no excuse or anything, showing perfectly how bad service at Platinum Palace Wroclaw was.
If you just look at the hard product at Platinum Palace Wroclaw, the hotel may have a chance to really deserve five stars. The interior is modern and the design is special, yet good. The open plan bathroom was a little strange, but that may be a matter of taste.
The Spa area is totally acceptable and the breakfast buffet wasn’t too bad either. Nevertheless, the bad gym and the horrible service are two things that definitely make Platinum Palace Wroclaw a hotel that doesn’t deserve its stars. A good night sleep is essential for a good stay at Platinum Palace Wroclaw. But even if there are problems, there’s always a chance to fix them with good handling of the situation.
Sadly, at Platinum Palace Wroclaw nobody cared – at reception, at breakfast and everywhere else. In conclusion, I’d only recommend Platinum Palace Wroclaw when you get a very good rate, what happens quite often. For a price of a four star hotel, Platinum Palace Wroclaw is definitely not a bad choice.
