Suiran Kyoto is the newest member of the Luxury Collection by Starwood. Located in Arashiyama, one of the most interesting parts of Kyoto, the new luxury hotel offers its guests stylish guest rooms, two restaurants as well as a private Spa. Suiran Kyoto may not be comparable to the larger luxury hotels in the city, but that’s nothing bad!
Arashiyama offers tourists a lot of interesting touristic sights that are worth checking out. It doesn’t come as a surprise that with Suiran Kyoto also a luxury hotel decided to open its doors right in the booming suburb of Kyoto.
Approximately 30 minutes by train from Kyoto downtown, Suiran Kyoto offers a special experience for travelers who seek a relaxing escape away from the buzz of the city. At the same time, the newest member of the Luxury Collection in Japan is not a real holiday hotel, but more a boutique hotel with incapable service, great cuisine and a lot of privacy.
All rooms at Suiran Kyoto are very large with even the Moderate Room offering 40 square meters (431 square feet).
Amenities included in the luxury experience in all rooms of Suiran Kyoto are complimentary Wi-Fi and newspapers, daily turn-down service, air conditioning, comfortable bathrobes, a minibar, a large flat-screen television and a private balcony.
The design of the room is modern, yet traditional Japanese at the same time. All rooms look very bright and even more spacious than they actually are due to the minimalistic interior which focuses on wood and other materials of the highest quality.
The usage of high quality at Suiran Kyoto product may also be admired in the bathrooms which make you feel like having your own little Spa paradise.
With “Kyo-Suiran” and “Saryo Hassui”, Suiran Kyoto offers its guests two restaurants. Kyo-Suiran is the main restaurant which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Saryo Hassui instead only offers light Japanese dishes and drinks from 11 am to 5 pm. Both restaurants got a focus on Japanese cuisine to make guests really feel the spirit of Japan.
At Kyo-Suiran guests can enjoy Japanese dishes in a special way as they are served in French style, something that’s very rare in Japan. Surely, the special kind of cuisine with fresh ingredients will make every guest of Suiran Kyoto love the gastronomy.
Even though Suiran Kyoto is a small boutique hotel, guests may enjoy the additional services offered. There’s a small gym to stay fit, but it’s recommendable to go for a run on the river which is located nearby.
Way more interesting is the little Spa of Suiran Kyoto where guests may enjoy a selected Japanese treatment in a relaxed atmosphere before dipping into the little relaxation pool or wandering around in the private garden.
Even though all rooms at Suiran Kyoto are very special with some even having private gardens, hot springs or whirlpools, the reviews of the hotel are quite streaky so far.
The main problem seem to be the prices which start at 42.500 Yen (~ 310 Euro / 350 US-Dollar) excluding taxes and breakfast for the smallest room category on selected dates. Usually, prices per night are even higher, especially when including breakfast and offering flexible payment options.
While Suiran Kyoto surely looks good, the nightly rates don’t seem to match the quality offered so far. Nevertheless, it’s definitely worth checking out Suiran Kyoto – even if it’s just for one night!
