Lake Constance is not only the biggest lake in Germany, it’s also renowned for its beautiful nature. If you got the pleasure to spend some time by the lake, be sure to also include a running trip. I decided to go for one starting at our holiday house through the tiny village of Gaienhofen right along the lake. Beautiful is just one adjective which is totally fitting!
Running at Lake Constance is an experience that’s not quite as amazing as for example running in Hermanus, but beautiful nevertheless.
Starting the run with good weather was quite enjoyable.
It was not really sunny, but only partly cloudy, so it was bright and warm enough for running in shorts!
From the street to the lake
I started my run on the road which is not far away from the lake.
There’s quite a nice cycling route next to the street, but as soon as I reached Gaienhofen, I decided to take the smaller path right by the sea instead. Just seconds later, I reached the nice beach of Gaienhofen which is not a sandy beach, but a large one with beautiful views.
Nevertheless, I didn’t spend too much time at the beach as I wanted to see more of the beautiful nature.
Small paths next to the lake
The nice thing about the running route between Gaienhofen and Horn (both on the German side of Lake Constance) are the small paths right next to the lake which you can find pretty much everywhere.
There are dozens of trees, high grasses and some small creeks.
From time to time, you’ll also get to nice viewpoints where you can not only have a look at the lake, but also the little villages on the Swiss side of Lake Constance.
German agriculture and nice views
In Horn, I reached a large campsite which is very populated in summer.
As it’s not possible to run through in this season, I decided to turn around and take another way back.
There’s a second path a little further away from the lake. On the left and on the right, you’ll see classic German agriculture.
And once again, you can enjoy beautiful views of the lake from time to time as the path is located a little higher than the one next to the lake.
Through the tiny village of Gaienhofen
On the way back, I ran through the tiny village Gaienhofen, which has some nice historic buildings, but is nothing special besides that.
A few minutes later, I was back at our holiday house again. Once again, I ran back next to the street as there is no path along the lake in this area. Nevertheless, running at Lake Constance was very enjoyable.
While running is not as spectacular as for example in Hermanus or Port Elizabeth, it is lovely to see a lot of the nature and enjoy views of the lake!
