Hilton Cape Town is a luxury hotel located in the city center of Cape Town. In contrast to most other hotels, Hilton Cape Town is further away from the Cape Town Waterfront. Nevertheless, the hotel offers a decent value for the money. Rooms are modern and well designed and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. You’ll definitely feel South African hospitality at Hilton Cape Town!
When we arrived at Hilton Cape Town, we were a little surprised that there is no such thing as valet parking.
Instead, you have to drive instantly your car into the hotel’s underground parking.
Nevertheless, our welcome at the reception was as friendly as you’d expect it to be in South Africa. At the same time, the check-in process was efficient and fast.
We were even escorted to our room, a rare feature for a Hilton property.
When checking-in online, we had already chosen an Executive Room with views of Table Mountain.
After having a first glance of our room, we didn’t regret it at all. Our room was located on the highest floor and centered the typical Hilton King Bed.
Other than that, the furniture at Hilton Cape Town was rather individual which is a relic of the past as the hotel was initially opened as a non-Hilton branded one.
The Executive Room came with a decent working desk, two bedside tables and a comfortable lounging chair. Coffee and tea making facilities were also awaiting us in our room.
The view of Table Mountain and the surroundings was also very nice, so was the calm as we did rarely hear anything from the outside during our stay at Hilton Cape Town.
The bathroom of the Executive Room at Hilton Cape Town was anything but typical for a Hilton, too.
At Hilton Cape Town, the bathroom was spacious, modern and came with high-quality furniture. This included a large rain shower, a free-standing bathtub, a soft-close toilet and a sink.
The only usual thing were the Peter Thomas Roth toiletries which are not bad.
The Executive Lounge at Hilton Cape Town is somewhat average. It is pretty dark during the day, but has a nice shared terrace with the bar-style restaurant and the swimming pool.
The offerings during the day are nothing to write home about with just cold and hot drinks, some cookies, nuts and other snacks.
Pre-dinner snacks were average at best, too. Yet, there was a menu with hot items which may be ordered for consumption in the Executive Lounge. While we didn’t have the time to try anything, the prices were actually more than just reasonable.
The lounge at Hilton Cape Town itself had a nice interior and seating was comfortable, but it somewhat lacks privacy and nice spots to work. Due to this, we decided to overall only spend a few minutes in the lounge.
As we didn’t have time for a long breakfast, we decided to just head to the Executive Lounge of Hilton Cape Town. The offerings were definitely better this time.
Hot items included baked beans, hashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages. The continental selection consisted of several different kinds of yoghurts, mueslis as well as cold cuts, cheese and even some fish.
Additionally, there was a selection of breads and toasts available. For lovers of a sweet treat, there was also a selection of muffins.
Moreover, there was a lounge attendant clearing the tables at all times. Breakfast in the restaurant which we had a glance at looked even better! Definitely recommendable.
The facilities of Hilton Cape Town include a pool, a gym, a business center and a prayer room. We had a closer look on the rather small pool which is not heated and so not usable in winter.
It is located on the terrace which is shared with the bar-style restaurant and the Executive Lounge, but is a little elevated which surely makes swimming a little more private.
There are also some comfortable loungers to enjoy some sun. The gym is located in a special section close to the pool and consists of several modern machines.
Compared to other Hilton properties, the gym of Hilton Cape Town is only average, especially as it’s pretty dark. Yet, it’s definitely okay for a usual cardio or strength workout.
Hilton Cape Town is a rather unusual Hilton property. The rooms are definitely above average and together with the rooms at Hilton Abu Dhabi Grand Capital (another property which was opened under different management), maybe the most well designed we ever enjoyed at a Hilton property.
The Executive Lounge instead is rather disappointing, but at least offers good breakfast and a menu with very reasonable prices for hot items during the day and in the evening. The pool is a little small, but must be quite enjoyable in summer.
The gym is a little too dark for my taste, but has everything you need for a normal workout. If you are looking for a good property to stay at in Cape Town and still want to get a good value for the money, Hilton Cape Town definitely is a good choice!
