The Garden Route Botanical Garden is somewhat the only real attraction in George. As we enjoyed the pleasure to stay at Fancourt Hotel George, we decided to spend the small botanical garden a visit. To be honest, the Garden Route Botanical Garden was a little disappointing, but is a great park if you want to go for a hike or running!
George is one of the most boring cities along the Garden Route. Not even the friendly butlers at Manor House George were able to give us any recommendation on what to do in the city.
The only sight of interest (leaving shopping malls out) is the Garden Route Botanical Garden, we were told. As we had some time we left, we decided to invest it into visiting the most interesting sight of one of the biggest cities along the Garden Route!
It is important to admit that the Garden Route Botanical Garden is most likely way more enjoyable in summer as it was when we visited in winter.
Nevertheless, we were surprised to rarely find Fynbos. The beautiful plants which are characteristic for South Africa are very diverse.
There are hundreds of thousands different types and it was obvious that the Garden Route Botanical Garden focused on the populations.
Yet, it was pretty hard to find most plants as the vegetation was just not very beautiful in winter. Not any surprisingly, there were not many other visitors!
On our way through the Garden Route Botanical Garden, we stumbled upon several different plants including succulents, the Wild Brown Sage and many more.
Sadly, rarely any of the plants was in its full blossom, making looking at the plants more or less boring.
Besides, it got obvious that the authorities don’t take enough care of the Garden Route Botanical Garden.
Everything looked like nobody took care of the plants and the paths for a long time. Really sad as the Garden Route Botanical Garden would have a lot of potential!
While the Garden Route Botanical Garden was not impressive in terms of flowers and plants, we actually had a good time in the botanical garden.
Not because we felt like being into one, but rather because of being in a beautiful park with a large lake, several nice seating spots and surrounded by beautiful nature.
To feel happy at the Garden Route Botanical Garden, you just shouldn’t expect more than a usual park.
Like that, you’ll definitely have a good time, especially taking into account that the Garden Route Botanical Garden is free of charge!
