Hotel Review: One Aldwych London

One Aldwych London

One Aldwych London is a renowned luxury hotel in the city center of the British capital. We had the pleasure to stay at the property for one night. While the service was top-notch, we were a little surprised that the Executive Room we occupied was that small. At the same time, the pool in the basement is definitely a great addition to a stay in London.

One Aldwych London is definitely a property we were looking forward to reviewing.

  • Classification: Five Stars
  • Room Category: Executive Room
  • Month of Stay: August

As one of the most prominent luxury hotels in London, One Aldwych has been in the focus of media for years.

At arrival, we were welcomed very warmly and were immediately shown to our room by a friendly employee.

Sadly, the Executive Room itself was a little below average for a hotel like One Aldwych.

The Executive Room is the second lowest room category at One Aldwych London.

Welcome Treatment at One Aldwych London

With just 24 square meters (258 square feet), it is surprisingly small for a room in a modern luxury hotel.

At the same time, it is worth taking into account that hotel rooms in London are usually very small.

View of the side street

The interior was tasteful and of the highest quality. The bed was comfortable and the small working desk was good to use.

There was also a rather modern flat-screen television with many international channels and a rather comfortable lounging chair.

A well-stocked minibar and a rather average view of a side street complement our experience of the Executive Room at One Aldwych London.

Bathroom at One Aldwych London

The bathroom of the Executive Rooms at One Aldwych London is surprisingly large.

When entering the room, we didn’t expect the bathroom to come with a tub and a detached shower.

Even though there was not much space to move, no separated toilet and just a single sink, the bathroom at One Aldwych London was a positive surprise.

Toiletries at One Aldwych London

The decent “T London” toiletries had just the right size and were easy to use, something that’s actually rare with hotel toiletries.

Afternoon Tea at One Aldwych London

Even though we arrived in the very late afternoon, we decided to give the prominent Afternoon Tea of One Aldwych London a try. Together with “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, One Aldwych serves a theme-based Afternoon Tea which definitely gets stars for creativity.

The taste and the service were very good, too. You may read more about the Afternoon Tea in our special review!

Pool & Gym at One Aldwych London

Something that makes One Aldwych London exceptional is the pool in the basement. Hotel guests may use it free of charge.

Even though there’s no natural light, the pool looks decent due to nice lightning. Two special features are underwater music which makes swimming very relaxing and a movie which is shown on the back-end of the pool.

Overall, swimming at One Aldwych is definitely a great experience even though the pool is not the largest. Lounging is rather uncomfortable as the area lacks coziness.

Instead, you may make use of the well-maintained sauna or steam room which are both located right next to the pool.

Another positive point for One Aldwych London is the gym which is large enough and well equipped for a city hotel.

Fruits and water are available complimentary.

Breakfast at One Aldwych London

Before we started exploring London and said goodbye to One Aldwych London, we had breakfast in the hotel’s à la carte restaurant.

One Aldwych London Breakfast

Continental Breakfast at One Aldwych London

Breakfast is not served on a buffet, which is definitely something special. Instead, you may choose anything from the menu. Even though everything sounds exceptional, the prices are on the typical level for a five star hotel in London.

The Continental Breakfast comes with fresh fruits

Sabrina went for a Continental Breakfast which included cut fruits, rolls, bread and pastries as well as jams. I opted for the American Breakfast served with scrambled eggs, bacon and cheese.

Both choices came with unlimited refills of coffee specialties and freshly squeezed orange juice.

Complemented by very good service, the breakfast at One Aldwych London is definitely worth recommending!

Bottom line One Aldwych London

One Aldwych London is without any doubt an exceptional property. The location could hardly be any better, the service is on the highest level and the private guests lounge which feels like a little library is an oasis in the busy city.

The rooms are small, but tastefully decorated

That said, we found the Executive Room at One Aldwych London to be rather small, even though the interior and the bathroom are very nice. The pool is nice for swimming, but the area lacks privacy for lounging.

One Aldwych London Lounge

The guests-only lounge is a real oasis in the busy city

The Afternoon Tea is absolutely unique and breakfast sets standards for a luxurious start into the day. Overall, we’d be happy to return to One Aldwych London, but must say that we find the hotel to be a little expensive for what is offered.
