Hotel Review: The Lowry Hotel Manchester
The Lowry Hotel Manchester is one of the most popular luxury hotels in the British city. Sometimes said to be the only real five star hotel in the city, we had high expectations. In most regards, those were met, but there are some things at The Lowry Hotel Manchester which are not on the highest level. Time for an extensive hotel review!
Located a few minutes away from the city center of Manchester, but yet close to all major touristic and business spots in the city, The Lowry Hotel Manchester has a decent location. Half of the rooms have a view of the river while the other ones have a rather boring one of the parking lot.
When arriving, we had the pleasure to be upgraded to a Riverside Suite. As the name suggests, we though had the pleasure to enjoy the nice view.
What’s definitely worth mentioning at this point is the nice exterior of The Lowry Hotel Manchester which looks quite stylish.
Riverside Suite at The Lowry Hotel Manchester
There are only few better rooms than the Riverside Suite at The Lowry Hotel Manchester and I don’t really think it can really get better than this.
Our suite was located on the highest floor far away from the elevator and offered nice views of the river through extremely large floor-to-ceiling windows. The room itself was separated into a living and a sleeping area, divided by a sliding door.
The bedroom came with a large King Bed, a small lounging area as well as a flat-screen television, while the living room had another lounging area, a working table and another flat-screen TV.
Next to the living room, the Riverside Suite also comes with a small kitchenette which is perfect when you want to prepare something.
What instantly amazed us about the Riverside Suite at The Lowry Hotel Manchester is the quirky and somewhat special design as well as little touches like selected books awaiting you in the room.
Nevertheless, the hotel has one major problem. Due to the age and bad maintenance, the furniture looks really worn out. While the design still fits into time, a renovation is deeply needed nevertheless. Yet, there’s another nice touch worth mentioning: In all suites, the minibar is included!
Bathroom(s) of the Riverside Suite
Next to the sleeping section, we found the Master bathroom with a detached shower and a tub which came with a rather old shower curtain, something you don’t really expect in a suite in a luxury hotel nowadays.
The other bathroom of the suite features a small guest toilet which is a nice touch. Both bathrooms came with a single sink.
The bigger one also came with a wide range of amenities including toiletries by Aromatherapy as well as shaving and dental kits.
Gym at The Lowry Hotel Manchester
The Lowry Hotel Manchester offers its guests complimentary access to the in-house fitness center. Access to other facilities which belong to the gym is granted only to those booking a treatment.
The gym itself is on the rather small side. It offers decent river views, but feels a little cramped as the hotel operator tried to squeeze in as many machines into small space as somewhat possible. The quality of the machines is good, but again you can see the age of the interior.
Something I liked in contrast is the fact that there is a good mix of machines for both, strength and cardio training.
Dinner at The Lowry Hotel Manchester
In the evening of our arrival, we enjoyed an amazing dinner at the Riverside Bar & Grill at The Lowry Hotel Manchester. As we were quite amazed, we dedicated the dinner a special post!
Breakfast at The Lowry Hotel Manchester
In the morning, guests of The Lowry Hotel Manchester can enjoy breakfast in the same restaurant where dinner is served.
This means that you can enjoy nice views of the river when starting into the day. The breakfast itself is a mixture of a buffet and à la carte options.
The buffet features mainly fresh cut fruit, yoghurts, mueslis and a selection of pastries, rolls as well as cold cuts and cheeses. All hot choices can be found on the additional menu. I opted for the Eggs Benedict which were a real treat and are definitely worth recommending.
Overall, we enjoyed breakfast at The Lowry Hotel Manchester as the combination of buffet and à la carte works out just fine.
Bottom line The Lowry Hotel Manchester
The Lowry Hotel Manchester has some strengths and weaknesses. I would highly recommend the hotel in all regards if there wasn’t the issues with the age of the furniture. Both, dinner and breakfast, were utterly enjoyable and the service was terrific at all points.
The Riverside Suite is extremely airy and comes with beautiful views and a great design. Sadly, the furniture looks old and damaged at the same time. This gets somewhat obvious in the gym which is a little past its prime, too. Nevertheless, I’d definitely return to The Lowry Hotel Manchester if I get the chance to!
