Hotel Review: Hotel Majestic Barcelona
Majestic Hotel Barcelona is located in the heart of Barcelona and is known to be one of the best properties in the city center of the Spanish metropolis. While I was totally impressed by the hard product, the soft product came with several flaws. There’s a lot of room for improvement, especially as Majestic Hotel Barcelona definitely is one of the more expensive options in Barcelona.
After spending the first night in Barcelona at Gran Hotel La Florida, we took a taxi down to the city center on Saturday morning.
- Classification: Five Stars
- Room Category: Deluxe City View Room
- Month of Stay: December
The ride was quick and we were looking forward to checking in at Majestic Hotel Barcelona.
Yet, the experience started rather average as the staff at reception was working very slowly and didn’t seem too competent as well.
The check-in procedure took some time, but at least the employee was friendly.
Deluxe City View Room at Majestic Hotel
As a Leaders Club Unlimited member I got a one-category upgrade to a Deluxe City View Room.
While this may not sound extremely amazing, the room we got was actually quite nice as it came with a rather extensive terrace with a very nice couch. Even though it was December when we stayed at Majestic Hotel Barcelona, I totally loved the terrace.
Another plus of the room was that it was not any noisy. The Deluxe City View Room itself is nothing to write home about as the room is just extremely small. There’s an entrance area with the wardrobe followed by the room which is more or less just a Queen Size Bed and a working table with a chair.
Even though the design is quite nice and the quality of the furniture is high, it was honestly one of the smallest rooms I ever got in a luxury hotel.
It somewhat reminded me of our experience at One Aldwych London.
Bathroom of the Deluxe City View Room
Even though the Deluxe City View Room at Majestic Hotel Barcelona was a little disappointing due to the size, the bathroom was actually quite nice.
Even though there was just a single sink, no detached toilet and just a shower-tub-combo, everything was of the highest quality. The marble bathroom just looked extremely inviting and was spotlessly clean.
Something else really amazing are the toiletries offered at Majestic hotel Barcelona. There’s rarely any brand I adore as much as Hermes!
Pool & Gym at Majestic Hotel Barcelona
Barcelona is really weird when it comes to pools. In earlier years, I had the pleasure to stay at Casa Fuster Barcelona, which came with one of the smallest pools I’ve ever seen.
At Majestic Hotel Barcelona the experience was extremely similar. The rooftop pool with views of Passeig de Gracia is a very nice touch, but the pool is extremely small and not heated, which makes it unusable in winter.
The gym at Majestic Hotel Barcelona is located in the basement and though has no windows. Nevertheless, the equipment is of the highest quality and there are enough machines to enjoy a good workout.
Sabrina also enjoyed a massage in the Spa, which she said was very enjoyable.
Food at Majestic Hotel Barcelona
First of all, it’s worth noting that everything on the menu at Majestic Hotel Barcelona is overpriced. Compared to restaurants in Barcelona, the prices are really steep.
While this is typical for luxury hotels, I have to admit that the price is only justified if not only the food, but also the service is great.
At Majestic Hotel Barcelona this definitely was not the case. When we enjoyed some tapas in the bar, we had to wait 20 minutes to get the menu and another 15 minutes until we were ready to order. There was also no flexibility at all. The food was quite good, but extremely pricy. I also had a burger and a cappuccino and a burger on the rooftop, while Sabrina enjoyed the massage.
At the rooftop bar, the service was just amazing and extremely warm. It’s just a little strange that the standards are so different at a luxury hotel on the level of Majestic Hotel Barcelona.
Breakfast at Majestic Hotel Barcelona
At breakfast, the service was right in the middle. While attentive, the waiters were not overly friendly or warm. The breakfast buffet was quite good nevertheless.
Even though the buffet was not extremely extensive, it had a nice Spanish touch and came with a decent selection and a nice presentation. The quality of everything we tried was on a very high level. There’s also a live cooking station, where sweet and egg dishes are prepared in front of your eyes.
To get an impression of the quality standards at Majestic Hotel Barcelona: pancakes and fried eggs were thrown away and replaced every five minutes if nobody decided to take them.
Overall impression of Majestic Hotel Barcelona
The hard product at Majestic Hotel Barcelona is quite nice. The hotel looks luxurious from the outside and even more from the inside. Even though our room was way too small for my taste, it was well decorated and also came with a lovely terrace and a very nice bathroom. The breakfast buffet is one of the best ones I had in Southern Europe so far and all the food I tried was very good, too.
Nevertheless, I have to admit that I found the service was either not very attentive or friendly or even extremely arrogant – especially at the reception. The only very positive exception was the lady serving me on the rooftop. I’m honestly not sure whether I’d return to Majestic Hotel Barcelona, but if the service improves, the hotel can be a great option to stay in Barcelona!
