Holiday Inn Berlin Schönefeld is one of the airport hotels at Berlin’s second biggest airport Schönefeld. Located just a few minutes away from the airport, the hotel offers a shuttle service. While I’m generally not a fan of Holiday Inn Hotels, I have to admit that the property is not bad. Nevertheless, the value for the money was everything but exceptional.
Due to the IHG Accelerate Promotion, I had no other choice than booking another IHG Hotel.
I’ve already reviewed properties like Hotel Indigo Berlin Ku’damm, Crowne Plaza Berlin Potsdamer Platz and InterContinental Berlin and expected Holiday Inn Berlin Schönefeld to be by far the worst of the four hotels.
In the end, I have to say that the hotel is on one level with the only Indigo hotel I’ve stayed at so far.
Yet, the prices of the property are quite high from time to time, which is not justified in my opinion.
We were assigned one of the modern Superior Rooms at Holiday Inn Berlin Schönefeld. These rooms are reserved for IHG Club members and were recently renovated. Upon entering, the room looked quite modern indeed.
There was a large King Bed, a flat screen television, some storage room, a comfortable armchair and a working table with a rather basic chair.
The modern design was quite nice, but as it is the norm with Holiday Inn properties, the room was just not very cozy.
The bathroom was basic as well, but the toilet, the single sink and the walk-in shower served their purpose.
Something else worth noting is that the rooms at Holiday Inn Berlin Schönefeld are not exactly soundproof, which means that I woke up in the morning due to airplane noise.
Moreover, the bed was not exactly comfortable and we both didn’t really have a good night sleep.
As we got hungry in the evening and there are hardly any other options in the approximate, we decided to have dinner at the restaurant of Holiday Inn Berlin Schönefeld.
The prices at the restaurant are quite reasonable and the dishes offered are basic, but this usually also means that the quality is guaranteed to a certain degree.
The table setup was quite nice, while the employee serving us didn’t really seem motivated. The finger food Sabrina enjoyed was nothing to write home about, but the salad I had (there’s a buffet you can choose from) was very good.
I was especially surprised to see some special items like salmon on the buffet.
Overall, a pleasant experience even though you shouldn’t expect top-notch cuisine at Holiday Inn Berlin Schönefeld.
Holiday Inn Berlin Schönefeld got quite a nice relaxation area on the top floor of one of the two hotel wings.
Even though it’s quite a walk when you are located in the other wing as we were, but it’s totally worth it.
The gym is not extremely well equipped, but just fine for a Holiday Inn. At the same time, the Spa was actually way nicer than I expected.
There’s a relaxation room with some loungers, there are a sauna and a steam bath and there’s even a Jacuzzi.
Everything is well maintained and looks very inviting. Definitely quite a nice touch!
There’s not really anything negative to say about Holiday Inn Berlin Schönefeld, but I kind of see Holiday Inn hotels to be rather three than four star properties.
Anyway, the room at Holiday Inn Berlin Schönefeld was modern and not too small, the relaxation area is way better than you’d expect and the restaurant offers a decent option for dinner. We didn’t have the time to try breakfast, but I can at least say that the shuttle service to the airport is flexible and quick.
That said, Holiday Inn Berlin Schönefeld meets all the criteria of a good airport hotel. Yet, I find the prices to be a little high from time to time, especially as the hotel sometimes is only slightly less expensive than the very good InterContinental Berlin in the city center.
