Lounge Review: Plaza Premium Lounge Bengaluru
Plaza Premium Lounge Bengaluru is one of two lounges in the domestic terminal of Bengaluru International Airport. The lounge is located right next to the Above Ground Level Lounge. While the size and the interior of the Plaza Premium Lounge Bengaluru are actually quite nice, I found both the cleanliness and the staff to be sub-par.
When flying with Jet Airways from Bengaluru to Mumbai, we were invited to enjoy the Plaza Premium Lounge at Bengaluru International Airport.
The lounge in the domestic terminal is located in the main hall to the left, close to the gates, but one level above. As soon as we arrived, our boarding passes were scanned and we were granted access to the lounge.
My first impression upon entering was quite positive, BUT it appeared that the lounge attendants didn’t really take care of cleaning.
Seating in the Plaza Premium Lounge Bengaluru
The Plaza Premium Lounge Bengaluru comes with several different seating areas, which are partly separated by plants and walls.
In the main part of the Plaza Premium Lounge Bengaluru you’ll find classic lounge seating with comfortable and modern armchairs separated by small tables.
Closer to the buffet, there’s a dining area compromising of several dining tables with normal chairs. Then there’s also a bar with some more comfortable seating around.
You can also find a more comfortable dining set-up at the right end of the lounge right next to some high-top seating with views of the gates.
Other seating areas you can find in the Plaza Premium Lounge Bengaluru include some more random bar-style seating and a working area with plugs around a tree in the center of the lounge.
Buffet in the Plaza Premium Lounge Bengaluru
While looking around in the lounge and taking pictures of the diverse and modern seating, I already recognized that cleanliness is an issue in the Plaza Premium Lounge Bengaluru.
Sadly, this got even more obvious at the buffet. While in the theory it’s quite nice that there are live cooking stations and also some hot items, everything was rather dirty, so you didn’t really want to grab any food.
When it comes to the food, there were live cooking stations for omelets and paratha (even in the evening), two hot dishes with rice, a salad buffet with some fruits and vegetables as well as a vitrine with several sweet treats.
I had an omelet and also tried some of the other food and all was average at best (leaving aside the amazing brownies). Drinks were limited to water, but you could get something different at the bar, which was attended by a barkeeper from time to time.
Entertainment in the Plaza Premium Lounge Bengaluru
The entertainment options in the Plaza Premium Lounge Bengaluru are absolutely fine for a domestic lounge. Upon entering, there were some Indian (English and Hindi) newspapers available.
Moreover, there were several televisions showing news channels. There’s also a business center with computers in some portioned off cubicles, which are a little dark and uninviting, but have decent computers. The Wi-Fi in the Plaza Premium Lounge Bengaluru is provided by TATA Docomo and you need a so-called scratch card to log-in.
You’ll get one or more of those by letting your passport get scanned at reception. It’s kind of a difficult system, which seems to be the norm at Bengaluru International Airport. The Wi-Fi though came with a decent speed.
Bottom line Plaza Premium Lounge Bengaluru
It’s a little tough to draw a conclusion about the Plaza Premium Lounge in the domestic terminal of the Bengaluru International Airport. In theory, the lounge is amazing. It’s airy, it’s spacious, there are several different modern and comfortable seating areas and there are even live cooking stations. However, theory and practice must not always be the same.
When we visited the Plaza Premium Lounge Bengaluru it was rather dirty and the buffet looked extremely uninviting. Moreover, the staff was anything but friendly, which is weird for India. Nevertheless, I’d say that the Plaza Premium Lounge Bengaluru is worth a visit to grab a bite or surf the internet prior departure. For longer stays, I wouldn’t really recommend the Plaza Premium Lounge though!
