Airline Review: American Airlines Boeing 777-200 Business Class
American Airlines has several different configurations in the long haul Business Class. The Boeing 777-200 alone comes with two different configurations. While we’ll review the old Business Class at a later point, this review features the new American Airlines Boeing 777-200 Business Class. The product is the same as in the Boeing 787, which we reviewed earlier. Yet, this airline review shows you that there are some differences anyway!
Having the pleasure to write airline reviews about three different Business Class products of American Airlines is definitely a nice thing.
- Airplane: Boeing 777-200 (new configuration)
- Cabin Class: Business Class
- Daytime: Evening till Morning
- Food: Dinner and Breakfast
- Bed length: 77 Inch (196 Centimeter)
- Seat Width: 24 Inch (61 Centimeter)
After really enjoying my flight in the American Airlines Boeing 787 Business Class, I was looking forward to experiencing the similar product aboard another aircraft. The new American Airlines Boeing 777-200 Business Class comes with two major differences.
First, the cabin is way larger with two spacious sections. Second, the old Boeing 777 aircrafts are way louder than the Dreamliner, which means that your sleeping comfort is a little worse.
Seating in the American Airlines Boeing 777-200 Business Class
The retrofitted Boeing 777-200 Business Class come with a reverse herringbone configuration in Business Class.
Be aware that there will be a third and yet different configuration of the American Airlines Boeing 777-200 Business Class as American Airlines changed the supplier.
The currently used seats come in 1-2-1 configuration with each second row having seats facing the rear. Forward facing seats in the new American Airlines Boeing 777-200 Business Class got the advantage of more space on the shoulders.
Meanwhile the rear facing seats come with added privacy and a better view out of the window. Besides that, there are rarely any differences between the seats, which are quite comfortable and might be adjusted to several different positions.
The finishes are not any special, but also didn’t leave a bad impression on me. Something I like about the seats in the American Airlines Boeing 777-200 Business Class is that there is enough storage room.
For example, there are one (forward facing seats) or two (rear facing seats) additional side tables to place drinks.
Sleeping in the American Airlines Boeing 777-200 Business Class
American Airlines has a very consistent soft product when it comes to sleeping comfort. When getting to your seat, you’ll find a pillow and a blanket, which I found okay, but not great at the same time.
There is neither a mattress nor any kind of bedding service, which means that you basically sleep on the seat. As I’ve already mentioned in my American Airlines Boeing 787 Business Class review, the seat can be adjusted into a fully flat position and is wide enough to fit for all kinds of sleeping styles you might have.
However, I find the flat bed to be a little too short, which might be a serious problem for tall people who fly the new American Airlines Boeing 777-200 Business Class. Nevertheless, I found the sleeping comfort to be quite good overall leaving aside the noise of the Boeing 777, which is a serious problem in my opinion.
Food in the American Airlines long haul Business
The food section of airline reviews is always one of the most interesting for many readers. However, I’d put my standards down when it comes to food on American Airlines.
It’s not that the food in the American Airlines long haul Business Class would be bad, it’s just nothing special.
On my flight in the American Airlines Boeing 777-200 Business Class, the service started with a pre-departure drink (champagne, orange juice or water) and commenced with another round of drinks with nuts after departure.
For dinner, I went with the Pistachio Crusted Tilapia, while Sabrina had the Teriyaki Glazed Chicken.
The entrée, which was served together with the starter came with a Roasted Beef and Quinoa Salad as well as a salad. Everything was just fine, but absolutely nothing to write home about.
The real highlight of the service in the American Airlines Business Class definitely is the customable ice cream sundae, which both of us ordered for dessert.
Breakfast was served one hour prior landing and consisted of two options.
Either a cheese omelet (surprisingly good), which came with a side of fruits and a roll or granola with fresh fruits (not bad either), which came with two cinnamon rolls and a yoghurt.
It’s also worth mentioning that there was quite a nice selection of snacks in the galley during the flight.
Entertainment & Amenity Kit in the American Airlines long haul Business
I find the entertainment system in the American Airlines Business Class to be quite good.
As there were rarely any changes in terms of entertainment between the Dreamliner flight I’ve reviewed earlier and the flight in the American Airlines Boeing 777-200 Business Class, I recommend reading our other review if you are interested in the entertainment onboard the American Airlines Business Class.
The same is true for the Cole Hann, which is the same on all American Airlines long haul Business Class flights and though not worth mentioning in this airline review again.
Bottom line American Airlines Boeing 777-200 Business Class
The new American Airlines Boeing 777-200 Business Class is without any doubt one of the better products on the North American market. The hard product is quite nice and offers great privacy for sleeping if you choose one of the rear facing seats. Generally, I found the seat in the new American Airlines Boeing 777-200 Business Class to be very comfortable for both, sitting a
nd sleeping. Food in the American Airlines long haul Business Class is no highlight and has never been one, but the quality and taste is constantly decent. The entertainment system is good enough if you don’t fly with American every week.
Last but not least, it’s worth mentioning that the service on this particular flight was average and definitely a little worse than onboard the Boeing 787, but still not any bad. If you got the chance to fly the new American Airlines Boeing 777-200 Business Class I’d definitely recommend to take it!
