Airline Review: Virgin Australia (domestic Economy)
The Virgin Australia domestic Economy Class was my product of choice when flying from Adelaide to Brisbane. As the main competitor of Qantas, Virgin Australia offers a great experience even including entertainment. Read why I’d recommend Virgin Australia in a heartbeat in this extensive review!
When in Australia, I’ve had the chance to fly Tigerair, Qantas (both to be reviewed later) and Virgin Australia on domestic Economy Class itineraries.
- Airplane: Boeing 737
- Cabin Class: Economy
- Daytime: Evening
- Food: Snack
- Seat Pitch: 31 Inch (79 Centimeter)
- Seat Width: 17 Inch (43 Centimeter)
While all experience were decent, I definitely liked flying Virgin Australia the most. Surely, my experience was also shaped by the fact that my flight was in fact very empty, making it especially comfortable.
But even leaving that aside, Virgin Australia just offers sort of a vibe that made me enjoy my experience to the utmost.
Seating in the Virgin Australia domestic Economy Class
When it comes to Virgin Australia, the whole experience starts with the stylish cabin.
While most Economy Class cabins look rather bland and similar to each other, Virgin Australia offers some sort of a special cabin with stylish lighting, brand new looking leather seats, movable headrests in different colors and a very modern look overall.
The seats in the Virgin Australia domestic Economy Class come with the typical 3-3 configuration in the Boeing 737 aircrafts. They are also very comfortable and offer above industry standard seat pitch.
Besides the comfort and the stylish look there’s not much more to say about seating in the Virgin Australia Economy Class.
Catering in the Virgin Australia domestic Economy Class
For this particular flight I somewhat forgot to do my research and thus wasn’t sure whether food or drinks were offered for free in the Virgin Australia domestic Economy Class.
As it turned out, this was the case and I was offered a choice of drink as well as a little snack. All other items are for purchase, allowing you to either just enjoy a small snack or have a rather elevated experience with sandwiches or wraps.
Alcoholic beverages are also for purchase in the Virgin Australia domestic Economy Class. While the catering definitely was nothing special (it was great in the domestic Business Class, which I’ll review later on though), I kind of like the concept.
Entertainment in the Virgin Australia domestic Economy Class
You might suspect that there’s not lot to tell about entertainment in Economy Class. While that’s normally true, I was once again impressed by Virgin Australia.
Most of the airline’s aircrafts and also this particular Boeing 737-800 offer not only a good board magazine, but a Wi-Fi based entertainment system. While there’s no internet connection available for purchase, you can watch dozens of different shows and movies on your own device or enjoy some music.
I was especially impressed by the incredible selection including box sets of TV shows. I’ve experienced a way worse selection on long haul flights, so kudos to Virgin Australia for offering so many options on a domestic flight in Economy Class!
Bottom line Virgin Australia domestic Economy Class
It’s rare that I’m impressed by Economy Class. Yet, my flight with Virgin Australia was incredible enjoyable. It might have been the fact that the jet was less than 1/3 full, but generally I found the experience in the Virgin Australia domestic Economy Class to be great.
From the modern and stylish design to the comfortable seats to the great entertainment, Virgin Australia definitely is a great choice for domestic flights in Australia!
