DoubleTree Doha Old Town is the only Hilton property located in “Old Doha”. The property is relatively new, so I had high expectations. Those were totally met as the property is a really charming hotel.
After my evening flight from Ankara to Doha, I took an Uber from the airport to the DoubleTree Doha Old Town. The ride was quick and comfortable.
The same is true for the check-in as the lobby was very calm at 10pm. The agent welcomed me as a HH Diamond member and handed over a letter of the management as well as the typical DoubleTree cookie, which was tasty as usual.
I wasn’t acommpanied to my room, but didn’t expect it at a DT anyways.
When checking-in online, I already saw an upgrade to a Panoramic Studio. Not bad as I just booked a Standard Room. The Panoramic Studios are located at the corners of the hotel on the highest floors.
To my surprise, the view wasn’t that great. Yet, the Panoramic Studio as such was beautiful. DoubleTree Doha Old Town is quite a new property and you’ll see that in the rooms as well.
The studios are spacious, well designed and come with a homly interior. While the Panoramic Studio is just one big room, there’s enough space to strech out.
There’s a nice armchair with a divan, a couch with a coffee table and a working desk with a decent chair.
Then there’s a very comfortable King Bed facing the large flat-screen television and the window front in the “distance”.
Something I found a little odd is that the DoubleTree Doha Old Town seems to offer a full kitchen in the Panoramic Studios. At least, there are a large fridge (in addition to a minibar) and a washing machine.
Talking of odd areas, the bathroom of the Panoramic Studio is a little strange, too. It’s not that it’s not nice, but I haven’t seen an elevated (!) jacuzzi bathtub in a hotel bathroom before.
In addition, there are two sinks, a walk-in shower and a detached toilet. Overall, the bathroom as much as the room is totally amazing for a DoubleTree hotel.
Sadly, the bathroom is not “panoramic”, not having a window, but you can’t have it all.
As a Hilton Honors Diamond member I was invited to enjoy a complimentary breakfast at PURE, the hotel’s only restaurant on the ground floor. Breakfast is served buffet-style and is nice overall.
There is everything you need for a good start into the day from coffee specialties to rolls to cheeses and cold cuts to fruits to hot options. You may also order eggs your style, which are freshly prepared for you.
At the same time, there’s nothing special about the breakfast at DoubleTree Doha Old Town. The service was a little sloppy as well.
Talking about sloppy service, it’s time to get to my lunch. Before my flight to Kuala Lumpur, I decided to a little lunch at the hotel’s restaurant. I opted for a burger with fries, which was very good.
However, the service was very slow and not attentive, which led to me waiting for my bill for 15 minutes.
Guests of DoubleTree Doha Old Town enjoy complimentary access to a Spa with sauna and steam bath (sadly, I didn’t have time to have a look), a gym and a rooftop pool.
The gym is located in a room without windows and thus feels a little depressing. The equipment is the typical Precor stuff you’ll also find at other Hilton properties. These are totally fine, but not amazing at the same time.
The DoubleTree Doha Old Town offers several options for cardio and strength training including several free weights. All good if the room would just be a little less depressing. The rooftop pool is sort-of weird as well.
While the rooftop bar is a great place to hang out and enjoy the views, the pool is tiny and not really big enough for proper swimming. In addition, there were no towels available when I was at the pool. I asked one of the bar guys, who wanted to get me one, but never showed up again.
Overall, I had a great time at DoubleTree Doha Old Town. The hotel has a good location in the “Old Town” of Doha and comes with a good hardware. Especially the Panoramic Studio was great. The rooftop is a great place to hang out, while the pool is sort-of average. In addition, I heard some noises in my room at night due to a party on the rooftop. Not ideal. In addition, the service at the DoubleTree wasn’t the best during my stay. Nevertheless, I’d recommend the DoubleTree Doha Old Town as the hotel offers a good value for the money and all the facilities of a proper city hotel.
