Hotel Review: Reichshof Hamburg
Reichshof Hamburg is the name of the first Hilton affiliated property in Hamburg. The Reichshof is part of the Curio Collection and thus a relatively individual hotel. Read in this review, what to expect of the hotel in the city center of Hamburg.
Even though there are several luxury hotels in Hamburg, including the Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten, Hilton never set a foot into city before the opening of the Reichshof Hamburg.
- Classification: Four Stars
- Room Category: One Bedroom Suite
- Month of Stay: February
In this review I’ll focus on the new Reichshof Hamburg as well as the Curio Brand as such as it was my first visit to a Curio by Hilton. You’ll see the individuality of the brand already when entering the beautifully historic lobby, which is gorgeous.
My check-in was quite nice as well and the upgrade to a One Bedroom Suite on behalf of my Hilton Diamond Status wasn’t any bad either.
One Bedroom Suite at Reichshof Hamburg
The One Bedroom Suite at the Reichshof isn’t as big as you might think. I’d say it’s approximately 50 square meters and looks more like a Junior Suite.
Upon entering, you’ll find yourself in the living room, where you can find a couch, two armchairs and a working desk with an ergonomic chair.
Just next, seperated by a sliding door, is the bedroom with a comfortable King Bed, another armchair and a large wardrobe.
In this, you can also find the Nespresso machine and a fridge. Amenities at the Reichshof Hamburg include a tablet with information about the hotel, a bathrobe (only in suites) and two small bottles of sparkling wine (only for Diamond members).
While the view from my One Bedroom Suite at the Reichshof Hamburg wasn’t great, I especially liked the design of the room.
The room is very atmospheric and cozy and the interior has a certain quality. Another plus is that the room was not only spotlessly clean, but there was also no noise at all.
Bathroom of the One Bedroom Suite
The One Bedroom Suite at the Reichshof also comes with a more spacious bathroom. While still not very big, it offers a bathtub and a walk-in shower (good pressure).
In addition, there are a single sink with some stoarge space and a toilet. The latter is not seperated from the rest of the bathroom.
Once again, the design is quite nice. In addition, suites at the Reichshof Hamburg offer toiletries in large containers as well as small bottles, which leaves the decision what to use to you. One of the best ideas I’ve ever seen in a hotel bathroom is the scent, which comes from a little container.
Breakfast at Reichshof Hamburg
The Reichshof Hamburg only offers room service in very limited hours and I didn’t bother checking out the restaurant. Yet, I had the pleasure to enjoy complimentary breakfast on behalf of my Hilton Diamond Status.
Breakfast is offered in the hotel’s restaurant and comes with a decent choice including freshly prepared eggs to your liking. The buffet consisits of several cold options including mueslis, yoghurts, fruits, cold cuts, cheeses and a nice bread selection as well as a couple of hot options.
Overall, I’d say the breakfast is very good for a four star hotel, both in terms of choice and quality.
Gym & Spa at Reichshof Hamburg
The Reichshof Hamburg offers a small gym and also a spa in the basement. The gym is neither very big nor very well equipped. While there are modern machines, the gym is only sufficient for cardio training.
Plus, there is no view at all. The spa comes with a relaxation room, a sauna and a steam bath (complimentary access). You may also book a massage for a charge.
While not especially great, the area is quite nice to relax after a long day.
Further thoughts on the Reichshof Hamburg & Curio
The Curio brand of Hilton was set-up to include individual hotels into the portfolio. With the Reichshof Hamburg, Hilton chose a great property for this purpose in Germany. The hotel doesn’t feel like a Hilton at all and yet ticks all the important aspects a good Hilton needs to tick.
You should be aware that there is neither an Executive Lounge nor a pool, but besides that the hotel is very nice and perfectly located. However, there is one major things that upsets me: The hotel offers Wi-Fi for up to two devices per room and the speed is not even very good. That’s something that definitely has to change!
Bottom line Reichshof Hamburg
Overall, I’d highly recommend staying at the Reichshof Hamburg. The rooms are very nice, well equipped and cozy. The bathrooms are also nice. While I don’t like the limited room service times and the Wi-Fi restrictions, everything else at the hotel is good. The breakfast is on 5-star level in terms of quality and choice, the spa is great to relax. Only the gym is average at best. Nevertheless, I’d say that the Reichshof is a great choice in Hamburg as long as the rates are below 150 Euro per night.
