Hotel Review: InterContinental Vienna

The InterContinental Vienna is currently in its last months. The hotel will soon be gone due to a redevelopment of the whole area. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my stay very much as you’ll read in this review.
The InterContinental Vienna is not only one of the oldest hotels of the whole chain, but is also a symbol for Vienna. No, the building isn’t beautiful, but it is very big and thus offers very nice views.
- Classification: Five Stars
- Room Category: Junior Suite
- Month of Stay: August
Nevertheless, the InterContinental will soon be gone, but might in return in a couple of years.

Lobby of the InterContinental Vienna
If you have the chance to stay there before its demolishment, I would recommend so.
Junior Suite at the InterContinental Vienna
Originally, I had booked a Studio Suite for my stay at the InterContinental Vienna. However, I was upgraded to a Junior Suite upon check-in due to my Ambassador membership.

Living Room of the Junior Suite
The Junior Suites are located on the second highest floor (same as the Club InterContinental). Upon entering, there’s a small room to the left, which acts as the luggage storage and wardrobe.

Bedroom of the Junior Suite
Further into the room, you’ll find yourself in the living room of the Junior Suite. There’s a nice couch, an armchair, a coffee table and a very nice working desk with magnificent views. Only the lack of a proper office chair is annoying.
The bedroom of the suite at the InterContinental Vienna is seperated by sliding doors. The bedroom is on the rather small side, but comes with a very comfortable bed with two mattresses.
The view from both rooms is totally beautiful and allows you to enjoy Vienna from above and nearly unobstructed.
While there was some wear and tear, I must admit that I found the design of the Junior Suite at the InterContinental Vienna to be very tasteful.
Bathroom of the Junior Suite
The Junior Suite at the InterContinental Vienna comes with a spacious bathroom. There’s a walk-in shower, a seperated toilet, a single sink and a bathtub.

Bathroom of the Junior Suite
The whole bathroom is on the old side and the shower comes with a rather outdated shower head. Nevertheless, I found it to be comfortable enough.
Toiletries are provided by Agraria, as it is the norm for InterContinental.
Club InterContinental in Vienna
As most InterContinental Hotels in Europe, the Vienna one offers a Club Lounge. It is located on the same floor as most suites and thus offers great views, too.

Views from the Club lounge
The lounge consists of four smaller rooms, which are semi-seperated by walls. There are a couple of different seating arrangements, from a business center to dining tables to more relaxed seating and all areas are quite bright.
The buffet spread during the day is rather limited, but there is a very nice afternoon tea with sandwiches and sweets.
In the evening, you can enjoy a couple of cold starters and a few warm dishes. Additionally, there’s a selection of spirits, beer and wine.
I’d say that the selection of the Club Lounge at the InterContinental Vienna is decent, yet not great.
Breakfast at the InterContinental Vienna
In the morning, we headed to the restaurant to enjoy our breakfast at the InterContinental Vienna. The breakfast restaurant has a tasteful interior, but is very dark, which I don’t really like.

At the same time, the buffet selection is great. There’s basically everything you can dream of, starting with all the typical continental breakfast items such as fruits, pastries, bread rolls, veggies, yoghurts, muesli and so on.
Hwoever, there’s also an amazing selection of Arabic options as well Asian ones. You may also order freshly prepared hot options, which are prepared on a live-cooking station.

Service is great as well. All in all, the InterContinental Vienna offers an amazing breakfast.
Gym at the InterContinental Vienna
The sports facilities at the InterContinental Vienna are slightly limited. There is only a gym in the basement, which sadly lacks daylight.

However, the gym is quite nice besides that as it is very spacious and offers tons of different machines.
Best of all, the gym was totally empty when I went for a workout. While the machines show some age, they are still in a good state.
Overall impression of the InterContinental Vienna
I’m a little sad to see the InterContinental Vienna go. The hotel offers a high standard and definitely is a proper luxury hotels. The Junior Suite wasn’t “fresh”, but felt very cozy and typical for Vienna. The bed is very comfortable and the views are stunning. Additionally, the Club InterContinental is nice and the breakfast is very good. I definitely wouldn’t hesitate booking the InterContinental Vienna again before its demolishment.

Wow didn’t know that they were closing the Intercontinental Vienna. I had a chance to stay there a few years back and truly enjoyed it https://mrmysteryreviewer.wordpress.com/2014/04/17/holiday-stay-interconhotels-vienna/
