The Althoff Seehotel Überfahrt Rottach-Egern is a luxury hotel located on the famous Tegernsee, approximately one hour away from Munich. As the hotel is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World, I was really looking forward to seeing how the experience would be!
Located just steps away from the lake and being a large resort, the Althoff Seehotel Überfahrt makes up for a great welcome when arriving.
The check-in process for our stay was quick and easy, all benefits of my Leaders Club membership were granted and I was given an upgrade to a so-called Elegant Nature Room, which is actually just a nicer wording for a renovated room.
I would strongly recommend those as they are a real step up compared to the “old” rooms.
I was assigned a spacious enough room, which had the typical shape of most hotel rooms. Upon entering, you’re in an area, which has some wardrobes on one side and the bathroom to the other. Then, you’re getting in the main area of the room.
Here, you can find a very comfortable King Bed with two nightstands on the one side, facing a flat-screen television and the working desk, which comes with a chair on the opposite side. Rather oddly, there was another chair next to the desk, which just didn’t seem fitting.
Then in the corner of the room, you can also find another armchair with a ottoman and a small table, which is ideal for lounging near the window when the weather is bad.
If it’s good, I’d actually prefer the very nice balcony, which comes with basic furniture.
The views of the greenery and the lake in the distance are nice, but not overwhelming. Higher room categories offer a more special view though.
Overall, I really liked the modern and very cozy design of the rooms, which made staying at the Althoff Seehotel Übefahrt Rottach-Egern enjoyable, even on rainy days. The bathroom is quite nice, too, despite it not having been part of the renovations.
It’s a little over the top when it comes to the use of gold and marble, but it offers all the comfort you might seek for. There’s a double sink, a very nice walk-in shower with lots of different settings and two shower heads as well as a very spacious bathtub.
The toilet is separated from the main bathroom by a glass door, giving you extra privacy.
All in all, I’d say that the renovated rooms at the Seehotel Überfahrt are really nice and make staying here for holidays truly enjoyable.
An area where the hotel really shines definitely is breakfast. I’ve been to dozens of hotels in Germany, including various luxury hotels like the Adlon Kempinski Berlin, the Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Hamburg, but I’ve hardly seen such a great breakfast spread.
The buffet comes with a great selection of various cold cuts, cheeses, bread rolls, breads and even different kinds of salmon and other fish specialties.
While there’s also a hot selection of the buffet, which is rather extensive, too, I’d rather opt for ordering egg dishes etc. on the table. I had the eggs benedict as well as some waffles and both were great.
Obviously, juices are freshly pressed and the coffee of the highest quality, but looking at the fruits selection on the buffet alone should give you a sense of how good the breakfast really is.
Well, all that said, there’s just one more point to add: The restaurant is a physically nice space with lots of natural light, allowing you to enjoy breakfast even more!
Not only did I enjoy breakfast at the Althoff Seehotel Überfahrt, but I also had the chance to savor the dinner offerings on one evening. While there’s an award winning restaurant, we just went for the rather casual Italian restaurant.
We tried various different things and all were excellent. For example, we had a selection of seafood as a starter.
Then as the main dishes, we had two pasta options and the fish, all three were great.
To finish off, we shared a tiramisu, which was heavenly.
I’m not usually much into food, but this experience was really great and I can totally recommend dining at the Althoff Seehotel Überfahrt Tegernsee.
I’ve seen a ton of different hotel gyms in my life and especially in resorts there’s not a lot of consistency. However, the Althoff Seehotel Überfahrt comes with a very modern, stylish and perfectly equipped gym.
There’s all you need for strength and cardio training as well as the things you need to stay fueled like water and apples. The modern and stylish atmosphere is another plus.
The main area of the spa and pool area has more of a rustic charm compared. Yet, it’s still a very nice area with several saunas and steam baths.
The main pool (indoor) is extremely spacious and surrounded by tons of comfortable loungers as well as a jacuzzi. Another positive point is the fact that there was hardly anyone here while I visited.
The indoor area also comes with a bar, where you can get coffee, drinks and snacks. The outdoor area is located in the hotel’s garden and comes with some more loungers, another pool and another jacuzzi. Personally, I preferred the indoor area, but on sunny days the outdoor area is a nice addition.
Last but not least, I’d like to talk about the relaxation areas. Those were recently refurbished and are not only extremely beautiful when it comes to the design, but also cozy to a degree I still can’t really believe. Personally, I fell asleep after just a few minutes – not a bad sign, huh?
All in all, there’s hardly anything bad to say about the extensive and cozy spa area as well as the other facilities including the pools and gym – wow!
The Althoff Seehotel Überfaht isn’t a cheap hotel, but it offers a surprisingly amazing holiday retreat not far away from the Bavarian capital. The hotel has a nice location, beautifully renovated rooms, an amazing spa & gym as well as great food for breakfast and dinner. The only downside might be that the service can be so and so, but it was quite good this time. All in all, I’d highly recommend staying here if you need a break from daily life!
