The InterContinental Bangkok made a real impression on me. In this extensive hotel review, I’ll explain why I enjoyed staying at the property and why I think that it is totally worth recommending, especially if you book a Club Room!
Nevertheless, the InterContinental made a real impression on me, especially thanks to the Club Lounge. The location right next to a MRT station is really good, too. You can find lots of shopping centers, massage places and restaurants right around the corner, so I don’t think that the hotel leaves anything to be desired in terms of the location.
A couple of months before my stay, there was a tiny glitch in the reservation center and I was able to snag an Executive Suite for the points amount of a Standard Room – sweet. In the end, the room I got was a Corner Suite, which had an interesting layout, but was quite nice.
Upon entering, you’ll find yourself in a spacious living room, which comes with a large working desk with a proper office chair – something I really appreciate.
Then there are a couch and an armchair on the other side of the room, arranged around a coffee table and facing a flat-screen television.
Waiting on the coffee table was a cute little welcome gift featuring an InterContinental teddy bear.
Also in the living room, there’s a Nespresso coffee machine as well as a minibar.
From the living room, you can get into a small room, which has the wardrobes as well as a door to the bathroom and bedroom, which comes with a small vanity desk.
The bedroom has an interesting shape as it’s completely round. The bedroom mainly features a very comfortable King Bed with two nighstands facing a flat-sceen television.
I slept very well in the bed, which is also turned down in the evening.
The view from both rooms isn’t spectacular, but you are quite high up, which makes looking down interesting. Other than that, you mainly see other skyscrapes. The bathroom is a bit of a let down compared to the rest of the room, design and luxury-wise.
There’s just a single sink with few storage, for example.
Then there’s a bathtub, which doesn’t look all that inviting, but is alright.
The toilet is also located in that room and isn’t separated from the rest of the bathroom.
The shower, featuring two shower heads, is quite nice though.
All in all, I really liked the Corner Suite at the InterContinental Bangkok as it comes with a special layout, feels modern (aside of the bathroom) and offers a high level of comfort. I’d say that the suite was even a tad nicer than the one I enjoyed at the InterContinental Düsseldorf.
Let’s speak about the real highlight of a stay at the InterContinental Bangkok, the Club Lounge! I had the chance to sample InterContinental lounges in cities like Vienna or Berlin, but the lounge in Bangkok is definitely the highlight. It consists of several large rooms, all offering brilliant views of town.
Then there’s amazing service as the staff is constantly roaming around, knowing your names and just knows what to do. The food on offer is really amazing as well and even beats the InterContinental Sydney, my favorite in terms of a Club InterContinental before.
For example, the Afternoon Tea is not a boring buffet with some sandwiches and scones, but you are offered a proper tray, which is filled with delights ranging from savoury to sweet options.
This is more the kind of Afternoon Tea you are usually offered when paying for in a luxury hotel.
The fun continues in the evening with really high quality food and cocktails you can order free of charge.
You’ll find an amazing buffet with tons of cold options, including sushi, salad, local dishes, fruits and more.
Then, you’re brought a selection of hot sampling dishes from the kitchen, which were really good.
The selection of alcohol and the service are really good as well, making the club lounge evening spread in the InterContinental Bangkok a real dinner substitute!
While I didn’t try breakfast in the main restaurant, I only have good things to say about breakfast at the Club InterContinental Bangkok. Once again, there’s a great buffet with tons of cold options.
Everything is high quality and I especially enjoyed the nice selection of bakery goods, cold cuts and freshly cut fruits.
Yet, the highligh is something else as there’s a menu available, which offers a tremendous amount of incredible breakfast dishes.
For example, you can have eggs benedict, steak & egg, omelettes or pancakes. Whatever you might be craving for is available for order, without any charge.
The service was phenomenal at breakfast as well and it wasn’t even a problem to have breakfast twice as I had a really early breafast before venturing out and then a late one again after coming back.
As you’d expect, the InterContinental Bangkok also comes with more recreation facilities than for example the InterContinental Paris Le Grand or the InterContinental London Park Lane. First of all, there’s a really nice lagoon pool of sorts on the rooftop.
You can also enjoy a swim-up bar here or just relax on one of the many comfortable loungers. Really a nice place to hang out after a long day wandering around town!
If you are eyeing for more relaxation, go down one floor and enjoy the facilities of the health club, which offers a sauna, a steam bath and a jacuzzi with amazing views over town in the chaning rooms – all free of charge of course.
Then there’s also a really large gym, which is also accessible for members. It’s one of these hotel gyms, which are just incredible, offering tons of machines, free weights and everything you might dream of for a perfect training.
The great views of town don’t hurt either, making the recreation facilities at the InterContinental Bangkok absolutely outstanding as well!
My stay at the InterContinental Bangkok was really enjoyable. Sure, what makes the property outstanding is the Club Lounge, but even that aside I enjoyed staying here very much. The hotel offers very nicely appointed rooms, a lovely pool on the rooftop and a great health club. If you are booking a room with club access, which I highly recommend, I’m sure you’ll love staying here!
