Hotel Review: Pullman Shanghai Jing’an
The Pullman Shanghai Jing’an is a luxury hotel near Shanghai Railway Station with modern rooms and a good breakfast. In this extensive review, I’ll explain whether staying here is a good idea or whether you should rather look elsewhere!
Shanghai is a massive city, which is one of the reasons why choosing a perfect location for a stay isn’t that easy.
- Classification: Five Stars
- Room Category: Deluxe Room
- Month of Stay: September
The Pullman Shanghai Jing’an has a relatively central location for that matter, being located just a stonethrow away from Shanghai Railway Station (not to be confused with Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, where most long distance trains are departing).
The hotel is located right on top of a metro station, allowing easy and quick connectivity within Shanghai.
Deluxe Room at the Pullman Shanghai Jing’an
During my short stay at the Pullman Shanghai Jing’an I got a one category upgrade to a Deluxe Room thanks to my Le Club Accor Gold Status.
This room wasn’t particularly big, but I liked the modern design and thought-through layout. I definitely prefered it to the rooms at the Pullman Sao Paulo or Pullman Auckland, for example. Upon entering, you’re basically in the room already, but there’s a partition separating the bed from the entrance area and wardrobe. The bed as such is very comfortable and perfect for a good night’s sleep. The two nightstands are big enough to put some things and turn down service is provided as well.
On the opposite of bed, you can find the typical flat-screen television right next to a working desk.
The latter is spacious enough and comes with a proper office chair, which is something I always appreciate.
Another bonus is the coffee machine, which you can find on the desk.
Furthermore, there’s a comfortable armchair with ottoman in the corner of the room.
Here, a nice little bowl of fruits was waiting for me upon arrival.
There wasn’t much in the ways of views aside from office buildings and a street, but I appreciated that the small, but nicely appointed bathroom had some daylight.
Here, you can a toilet, a sink as well as a nice walk-in shower.
This one comes with two shower heads and offers a good shower pressure.
The amenities provided by CO Bigelow are quite nice as well.
All in all, I really liked the room at the Pullman Shanghai Jing’an. Sure, it’s not particularly big, especially in comparison to other luxury hotels in Shanghai, but I still thought that it offers all you need for a business stay.
Breakfast at the Pullman Shanghai Jing’an
In the morning, I had breakfast at the Pullman Shanghai Jing’an, which is served in the hotel’s main restaurant. Here, you’ll find a good selection of Western options, including a salad bar, cold cuts, cheeses and a good bread selection.
Aside from the continental options, you can also load your plate from a large selection of hot dishes, which there are many of.
There’s a good selection of Asian specialties as well, including hot and cold ones. Additionally, you can order freshly prepared egg specialties and noodle soups at a live cooking station.
The quality of everything I tried was good and the only real downside of breakfast at the Pullman Shanghai Jing’an is the lack fo daylight in the restaurant.
Gym at the Pullman Shanghai Jing’an
Somewhat weirdly located in another part of the building than the rooms, the hotel also offers a gym. Sadly, there’s a lack of daylight again, but that aside the gym is spacious enough and equipped with decent equipment for strength and cardio training.
There are only a couple of machines, but there’s also an area with various free weights as well as a stretching / yoga room. You can definitely have a full workout here!
I’m not exactly sure when it’s supposed to open, but when I stayed at the Pullman Shanghai Jing’an, I was told that a pool was currently being built, so there might be more in the recreation area in the future.
Overall impressions of the Pullman Shanghai Jing’an
My stay at the Pullman Shanghai Jing’an was really enjoyable and I’d return here in a heartbeat. The hotel offers a good value for the money with modern rooms, which are well designed, while a tad small. There’s a good gym and a really nice breakfast buffet, so there’s hardly anything to complain about. While there are definitely better hotels in Shanghai, at this price point, the Pullman Shanghai is a really good choice for a business or leisure stay.
