The InterContinental Singapore is a luxury hotel with a historic setting in the heart of town. In this extensive review, I’ll explain why staying here is a good choice, but why I still wouldn’t consider the hotel to be particularly special.
Singapore is an interesting city for a couple of reasons. As a business and leisure destination, there are tons of different luxury hotels with the InterContinental being one.
There’s actually even a second InterContinental (Robertson Quay) in the city, which is the newer of the two. The “original” InterContinental Singapore is located in the city center, a good 10 minutes walk away from the bay. Thus, I’d say that the location is quite good, so are the rates usually.
In this instance, I only paid about 200 SGD per night including taxes, which is a great price for Singapore.
Even though I had only booked a base level room for my stay, I was upgraded to a Deluxe Room at the InterContinental Singapore thanks to my Ambassador Status. This room category has a historic design and is a bit more spacious.
As you’d expect, the comfortable King Bed with nice linens is the centerpiece of the room.
It comes with two nightdesks and feels the most historic regarding the design elements.
Opposite of the bed, there’s a large flat-screen television and further right you can place a luggage rack.
The other side of the room has two noteworthy pieces of furniture. On the one side, there’s a small sofa with a coffee table.
While the other side has a fairly large working desk with a comfortable moving chair.
A few minutes after I checked in, a small fruit bowl as well as some water was brought to my room as a gesture for my InterContinental Ambassador status.
The views from my room weren’t particularly special, but not bad either.
The bathroom is about what you’d expect at the InterContinental Singapore as well, it also comes with the slightly historic and local design, but feels comfortable and not run down.
There’s a bathtub, which is nice enough, but not particularly special.
Then you have a sink with some storage as well as a toilet right next to it.
Partioned off from the rest of the bathroom is a nice walk-in with two shower heads.
All in all, I’d consider the Deluxe Room at the InterContinental Singapore to be nice, but not overly so. I liked it more than the rooms at the InterContinental Cannes or InterContinental Paris Le Grand, but not as much as the rooms at the InterContinental Bangkok.
As basically all good luxury hotels in Bangkok, the InterContinental also offers a fair share of recreation options. There’s a spa, where you have treatments for a fee as well as gym, which you can obviously use free of charge.
It’s spacious enough, comes with modern equipment as well as modern machines for cardio and strength training. You can also find free weights, making it a good gym for a full workout.
There’s also a large outdoor pool as well as a jacuzzi. It’s nice enough for swimming, but surely not one of the nicest pools ever.
You may also relax on one of the many loungers around the pool. All in all, I’d say that the recreation offerings at the InterContinental Bangkok are nice, but not as nice as for example at the InterContinental Ljubljana.
The InterContinental Singapore comes with an impressive lobby and bar. The latter has a lot of charme and feels particularly “old world”.
Due to my Ambassador welcome drink voucher, I had the chance to enjoy a glass of wine here, which was a nice treat in the evening – quality and service were quite good as well.
Sadly, I didn’t have the chance to eat anything at the hotel as my stay was really short and I had to leave too early to sample breakfast in the morning.
My stay at the InterContinental Singapore was enjoyable as the hotel doesn’t feel as generic as many other chain hotels. While the rooms aren’t special, they are nice enough. The same is true for the pool, the gym as well as the bar. While I wouldn’t say that there’s anything that stood out about this property, I’d still book it again if the price is right. If you find a rate of less than 200 SGD per night, the InterContinental Singapore is a really nice choice!
