The InterContinental Grand Stanford Hong Kong is a luxury hotel located on the Kowloon side of the city and offers very nice views, comfortable rooms and a nice pool. In this extensive hotel review, we’ll explain what you need to know about staying here!
Hong Kong is a fascinating city when it comes to luxury hotels as there are just plenty of different options. During my last visit, I had the chance to stay at the really nice Conrad Hong Kong, which I thought was nice, but not amzaing. The InterContinental Grand Stanford differs from the Conrad in many aspects, one of those is the location at is located in Kowloon and not on Hong Kong Island, where you can find most of the luxury hotels and the best view of town. Nevertheless, the InterContinental Grand Stanford often is a good choice as the property offers affordable prices by Hong Kong standards, a central enough location and modern rooms.
The InterContinental Grand Stanford Hong Kong offers various different room types and I decided to book the one below the Premier Full Harbour View Room to score this one as an upgrade through my InterContinental Ambassador Status. The room as such isn’t massive, but fairly large for Hong Kong.
The whole interior makes a modern and good impression and the room is dominated by a King Bed with a nightstand on each side, as you’d expect. The linens were soft and comfortable and there were two pillows each with different levels of firmness.
Next to the bed, you can find an armchair, which doubles as a lounger and comes with a side table. From here, you can enjoy the nice view.
The same is true for the desk, which isn’t a tradtional working desk, but comes with two chairs and thus is ideal for two people travelling together.
Other than that, there’s a flat-screen television accross from the bed and another piece of furniture below.
Here, a nice little welcome gift consisting of fruits and water as well as a Nespresso coffee machine already awaited me.
Speaking of the view, I wasn’t all that amazed to be honest. While it was nice to have a view of the bay, there’s no skyline as such to see and there’s also a large street in front of the hotel. The weather wasn’t particularly nice either…
Regarding the bathroom, the InterContinental Grand Stanford Hong Kong really tries to use space efficiently as it’s really small for a luxury hotel, even compared to the InterContinental ANA Tokyo or the InterContinental The Strings Tokyo.
There’s a toilet, a sink and a walk-in shower with two shower heads. All feels luxurious and nice, but the bathroom is really cramped.
Nevertheless, I generally liked the room at the IC Grand Stanford even though I don’t think that the Harbour View is that great compared to other properties.
The pool and gym at the InterContinental Grand Stanford Hong Kong are located on the hotel’s top floor. The gym consists of two rooms and is well equipped for both, cardio and strength training.
The pool is outdoor and one of the nicer InterContinental pools. It’s spacious and good for swimming laps even though the shape isn’t perfect for that.
There are also several loungers around the pool and you can enjoy also enjoy a somewhat nice view of the skyscrapers and even limited bay views.
Compared to properties like the InterContinental Bangkok or the InterContinental Sydney, the InterContinental Grand Stanford is not on the same level. Nevertheless, it’s a good choice for a stay in town as it’s often more affordable than other luxury hotels in town and still offers a good experience, it’s just not a special hotel and doesn’t come with the same views as other properties in town.
