My stay at the Pullman Montpellier Centre was special in a unique way. Due to heavy snowfall, it was hardly possible to leave the hotel, but my base for the time in the city was at least nice enough. Check out why I think that the Pullman is an okay choice in Montpellier, in my opinion.
Montpellier is actually known to be a city with lots of sunshine and hot temperatures, but this also means that the city isn’t really prepared for snowfall. That said, I was basically stuck at the hotel for my time in Montpellier. Even getting to the hotel from the train station (usually a ten minute walk) or the main square of town (maybe five minutes away) took more than half an hour. That aside, the location of the hotel is quite good as you are close to the station and the city center alike. It’s worth noting that Montpellier is one of the few larger French cities without an MGallery or Sofitel property. Usually, I’d prefer hotels like the Sofitel Strasbourg or the Grand Hotel La Cloche Dijon over a generic Pullman, but for what it’s worth, this property is also nice enough.
For my stay at the Pullman Montpellier Centre, I was assigned a Deluxe Room as booked (the hotel was fully booked, so no upgrade this time), which I thought was nice enough.
The room design is not terribly modern, but it also doesn’t feel run-down or anything.
The centerpiece of the about 25 square meters large room is a King Bed with two nightstands.
Opposite of it, you can find an incredibly large flat-screen television – the room felt a bit like a cinema.
While the entrance area has a wardrobe, further into the room, there’s also a luggae rack, which is located right next to the working desk. The latter is a decent size and a turning chair, which I didn’t find all that comfortable for longer working sessions. It’s also a bit annoying that the desk is located right below the television.
A positive aspect of the rooms at the Pullman Montpellier Centre is that you can find a coffee machine with complimentary capsules here.
Closer to the window, there’s another seating option alongside a small table.
The views of the inner courtyard aren’t anything to get excited about either and due to the small size of the window, the room felt quite dark even during daylight. What’s interesting about the rooms at the Pullman Montpellier Centre is the location of the bathrooms, which are separated by sliding doors.
Here, you can find a single sink with somewhat limited storage.
Furthermore, there’s a small, but decent rain shower with good water pressure.
The toilet is located in a small room by the entrance as it’s the norm for hotels in France.
All in all, I’d consider the rooms at the Pullman Montpellier Centre to be okay, but I also didn’t fall in love with them, especially as they are quite dark.
While I didn’t have breakfast at the hotel (I just thought that more than 25 Euro per person for the buffet are too much), I ordered room service in the evening (not that there were many alternatives due to the weather). The Croque Monsieur was really tasty and delivered quickly.
We also ended up having cappuccino in the lobby. The drinks were good and I liked the gesture of getting a little muffin alongside my order for coffee.
While I wasn’t able to try breakfast at the Pullman Montpellier Centre, I’d say that the food quality is on a good level, judging from my experience at the lobby bar and room service.
The gym of the Pullman Montpellier Centre is quite disappointing as it’s basically just a little room with very limited equipment.
It’s definitely not possible to go for a real workout here, which is something I absolutely expect from a Pullman hotel and which is the norm at properties like the Pullman Auckland, Pullman Sydney or Pullman Shanghai.
Aside from the disappointing gym, the Pullman Montpellier has a tiny, but otherwise outdoor pool (if it’s not snowing).
There are a couple of loungers around it as well, so I’m sure you will enjoy the pool quite a bit after a long day of work.
I didn’t love my stay at the Pullman Montpellier Centre, but I still thought that the hotel is decent. It’s fairly modern, the room service order I had was good and the rooms are absolutely fine for a business hotel. Sure, the gym needs to be better and there are other things I don’t think are amazing, but all in all staying here is recommendable.
