The Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport is the closest hotel to the international airport of Bangkok. In this extensive review, we’ll explain what you need to know about staying here!
Bangkok is a city with plenty of luxury hotels with an affordable price tag. Interestingly though, there are not a lot of hotels right around the Suvarnabhumi Airport, which is an important international hub.
The Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport is the only property you can reach by walking even though the shuttle is still recommended as the best option. It can be found in the arrivals hall on the street level and runs whenever a guest arrives. Like that it takes less than ten minutes to get to the hotel. As other hotels near the airport are outside of the airport area, the Novotel definitely is the easiest and quickest option to get to at Suvarnabhumi Airport, especially in a city known for horrible traffic.
The location comes with a premium though as the hotel usually charges between 150 and 250 Euro per night, which is a lot for Bangkok, where even the best luxury hotels like the InterContienntal Bangkok in the city often charge less.
Thanks to my Le Club Accor Gold Status, I got an upgrade to an Executive Room for my stay at the Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport. While this didn’t come with lounge access, it meant a room on a higher floor.
The rooms as such are definitely showing age and look much different than modern Novotel hotels like the Novotel Avignon. It definitely is time for a renovation soon, but the comfort level is still high despite the age, in my opinion.
The centerpiece of the room is a comfortable King Bed with two nightstands, which comes with decent bedding and a good mattress. I had no problems sleeping here, even for a nap during the day, so sound insulation is good enough for sure.
Next to bed, there’s a comfortable armchair with a small table.
I really liked the little welcome gift with fruits and sweets waiting on the table.
In the other corner of the room, right by the window, there’s the work desk, which is spacious. The comfort of the chair is rather average though as it’s not ergonomic.
On the side-table of the desk, the Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport offers a coffee machine, which is something you can only find in Executive Rooms and higher categories.
My room didn’t have any noteworthy views, but instead only faced the area around the airport and lots of highways.
In the entrance area of the room, you can find a spacious wardrobe and the entrance to the bathroom.
It comes with a window to the actual room and thus offers daylight, yet it’s also possible to lower a curtain for privacy.
The bathroom as such is well equipped with a sink with lots of storage, a toilet and a nice bathtub.
There’s also a walk-in shower, which comes with a decent water pressure.
All things said, I’d say that the rooms at the Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport are nice enoguh and definitely fine for a night at an airport hotel, yet you should be aware that they are a bit past their prime.
While I had some kinds of food poisoninig during my stay and thus couldn’t eat anything, I at least checked out the other facilities of the property. These are including a really nice gym with lots of equipment and several machines.
Here, you can definitely go for a full workout as there are also all kinds of free weights, racks and strength machines. This sure is a great place for a good workout between flights.
I also really enjoyed the outdoor pool, which is located on a rooftop terrace of sorts and while it doesn’t offer views, it comes with a really nice atmosphere.
You can lunch under some trees and order a snack or a drink from the pool bar. The pool as such is also large enough for swimming some laps or also lounging in one of the side areas.
For an airport hotel, the facilities at the Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport sure are nice.
It’s out of question that the value for the money at properties like the Conrad Bangkok or the Okura Prestige Bangkok is much better than at the similiarly priced Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, but at the same time the location of this airport hotel is unbeatable. If you have a quick layover and want to save on time, this is the go-to option near the airport. While the hotel sure could use a renovation, I still thought that the rooms were nice enough. The recreation facilities are really nice as well and the staff was very accomodating. Thus, I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the Novotel Bangkok Airport even though it is a bit too pricey for what it is.
