The Hilton Budapest Old Town is a recently renovated luxury hotel in the capital of Hungary. In this extensive review, we’ll show you why staying here is recommendable and why the location is great for tourism in particular!
Budapest is a city with plenty of chain hotels and also various luxury properties. Hilton for example offers three properties in the city, of which we’ve also already reviewed the Hilton Budapest City.
If you are in town for tourism, I think staying at the Hilton Budapest Old Town is definitely more recommendable though. The property is located on the hill, inside the famous castle. You can reach all major spots in just a few minutes, can enjoy nice restaurants at your doorstep and have a great view of town. Public transportation, taxis or even your own feet also get you into the city center quickly!
When staying at the Hilton Budapest Old Town, I’d highly recommend booking a room with river views as those are a real highlight. I was lucky enough to get upgraded to an Executive Room with River Views, which I enjoyed very much.
The rooms at the property have recently been renovated and feature one of the most modern and stylish designs, I’ve seen at a Hilton property.
While the rooms aren’t particularly spacious, they offer all the comfort you need. There’s a very comfortable bed with two nightstands, for example.
On the opposite side, there’s a drawer with complimentary water (replenished daily) as well as a flat-screen television above.
While there is no proper desk in the rooms at the Hilton Budapest Old Town, there is a round-shaped table with a comfortable chair. This is a trend at some newer Hilton properties, however I still prefer a proper desk like at the Hilton Belgrade or Hilton Singapore.
Furthermore, there is some storage space in the entrance area, including a wardrobe. Right by the window, a comfortable armchair with a little table offers a nice space to relax.
From here, you can also enjoy the marvelous views of the Fisherman’s Bastion as well as the Danube River and the city.
Luckily, not only the rooms were renovated, but the bathrooms were fully renovated as well.
You can find a spacious-walk in shower, a toilet, a bathtub as well as a sink with lots of storage.
Overall, I really liked the rooms at the Hilton Prague Old Town and would consider them to be among the nicest designed ones I’ve yet experienced at a Hilton.
Thanks to my Hilton Honors Diamond Status, I had the chance to enjoy complimentary breakfast in the hotel’s restaurant.
The buffet comes with various different choices, including cold classics like different bread rolls, cheeses, cold cuts, muesli and many more.
It’s also worth pointing out that there are a couple of local bakery goods, which I enjoyed very much.
Furthermore, there is a selection of several warm dishes, including local (meat) specialties.
A waffle station as well as live-cooking for omelets is also available.
Summed up, there’s nothing to criticize. I’d consider the breakfast at the Hilton Budapest Old Town to be wonderful!
Another nice area at the property is the Executive Lounge, which sadly only offers limited views of the city and feels a bit dark. Nevertheless, the design is modern and there’s usually enough space in the different areas. Yet, it gets a bit full in the evenings.
The food options offered in the lounge of the Hilton Budapest Old Town are decent with a smaller selection of breakfast items than in the restaurant, but still a fine choice.
There are plenty of cold and also some hot options, but there’s no live cooking offered.
In the afternoon, there’s a rather limited selection of cakes, while there is a decent spread of some cold options in the evening.
Usually, there are also two hot dishes at the buffet, which were so-so in quality. Alcohol and other drinks are on offer as well.
Unlike the Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest, the Hilton Budapest Old Town doesn’t offer a pool. Yet, there is a decently sized gym.
It’s fine for both, cardio and strength training and you have partial views of the city.
Right next to the fitness area, there’s also a sauna and a relaxation area, which I’d consider to be alright.
While the recreation offerings at the Hilton Budapest Old Town are fine, they are also far from exceptional and maybe the weakest part of the offerings.
I had a very good stay at the Hilton Budapest Old Town and can definitely see myself returning. A room with a view is a must here, but the room design as such is also really nice. Breakfast is also good and the lounge is fine as well, so there’s hardly anything to complain about. This is definitely one of the Hilton properties, where I thought that the value for the money is really good.
