The Conrad Hangzhou is a recently opened luxury hotel in the metropolis close to Shanghai. In this extensive review, we’ll explain what you can expect of staying here!
In China, the growth in the luxury hotel segment is crazy. There are dozens of new luxury hotels each month. The American hotel operator Hilton is one of the companies expanding wildly in China, among other with the Conrad brands.
The Conrad Hangzhou is one of the newest properties and located in a massive office and shopping complex called Raffles Center. The hotel is in a strategic position, very close to many office buildings and also not too far away from the city center.
The airport and train stations are reachable by car (and public transportation) in 30 to 60 minutes.
Due to bookings through the Impresario Program and also holding the Hilton Diamond Status, I had the pleasure to enjoy an upgrade to a Executive Suite for my stay at the Conrad Hangzhou.
The suite consists of two large rooms, located on the 50th floor, so it feels a bit like you are above the sky. The living room is particularly phenomenal as it has large floor to ceiling windows.
The design of the whole suite is very modern and minimalistic, a typical style of newer Conrad hotels, which I also liked very much at the Conrad Tokyo or Conrad Singapore. In the living room, there is a large sofa with an additional chair and a table – this is a great space for hosting some friends.
On the opposite side, there’s a flat screen television above a spacious side board.
Here, you can find a fully stocked minibar (chargeable) and a nespresso coffee machine (complimentary).
Furthermore, the living rooms comes with a table alongside two comfortable chairs.
The views of the nearby skyscrapers and the river in the distance is quite nice as well, but definitely not as phenomenal as for example at the Pudong Shangri-La Shanghai.
Upon our arrival in the room, a lovely welcome note with a fruit basket was already waiting for us.
Separated from the living room by a sliding door, you can find the bedroom.
It’s a tad smaller than the living room, but still very spacious and stylish in design.
Dominating the room is obviously a very comfortable King Bed with great linens and two large bedside tables.
By the window, you can also find a lovely lounger, from which you can enjoy the views.
The suite at the Conrad Hangzhou also comes with two bathrooms. The smaller one is located in the entrance area and only consists of a toilet and a sink.
The larger bathroom is to be found right next to the bedroom and has a really luxurious feel.
Not only is the bathroom all marble, but it also comes with a beautiful free-standing tub. Sadly, it doesn’t offer the same amazing views as the bathtub I enjoyed at the Conrad Beijing.
The double sink is quite nice as well as it allows you to spread out quite a bit.
Both, the shower and the toilet are located in a separate room for more privacy.
Particularly the shower with a two heads and a great pressure left a very good impression on me.
Finally, there’s also a wardrobe, where you can store your things.
Overall, I’d consider the suites at the Conrad Hangzhou to be really beautiful. As all rooms have the same design and are very spacious as well, I’m sure you’ll love staying in any room or suite at this property.
Enjoying breakfast at the Conrad Hangzhou sure is a lavish experience. There is a great choice of differnt options, including frehsly cut ham and a nice cheese selection for a Chinese hotel.
Furthermore, there are dozens of hot options, including Western classics and Asian favorites.
There are also the typical cold options, including things like freshly cut fruits, yogurts and more.
The living cooking stations offer omelets, noodle soups and more – all very yummy.
You may also enjoy hand crafted coffee specialties and fresh juices, thus a great start into the day is guaranteed. While not on the level of the Waldorf Astoria Beijing, I still thought that breakfast at the Conrad Hangzhou was very good.
As most Conrad properties, the Conrad Hangzhou also offers an Executive Lounge, which comes with a very stylish ambience and lots of natural light.
There are plenty of different seating options for either relaxing or working, you may soak in great views from basically all seats.
The views are particularly nice here as you can see the large square right next to the Raffles Center with all its nicely lit up buildings at night.
During my stay, breakfast wasn’t served in the lounge, all guests were sent to the restaurant instead. However, an afternoon selection was available.
There were some cakes on the buffet, but generally the afternoon snacks are brought to the table, including a nice selection of sandwiches.
Handcrafted coffee as well as soft drinks are also available throughout the day. In the evening, you can also enjoy a buffet with some light dinner snacks. There is a nice salad and cold cuts selection, plus some desserts and cut fruits.
In addition, there are various hot dishes, which in my opinion allow for a proper dinner and not only light snacks.
Furthermore, you can also enjoy alcoholic beverages during these hours.
Generally, the lounge is as great as you would expect it to be in Asia. You can have a nice meal in the afternoon and a proper dinner, all in quiet and with great views. Definitely recommendable!
As I also had a food & beverage credit through my Impresario bookings, I also ended up having a dinner at the hotel’s Italian restaurant (the only open one that night).
Sadly, the service was quite subpar and there was a huge language barrier.
Plus, the menu was extremely limited, in case you didn’t want to have the buffet.
The quality of the dishes was alright, but definitely not exceptional. That’s a bit sad as everything is rather pricey.
The Conrad Hangzhou also comes with plenty of recreation options. For example, there’s a really nice pool, which is great for swimming laps.
Next to the people, there’s also a jacuzzi, so you can heat up and relax a bit after swimming.
Several loungers are also available around the pool.
Another jacuzzi, sauna, steam bath and relaxation room are available in the locker rooms.
The lack of daylight might be the only weakness of the relaxation area as I particularly enjoyed that feature at properties like the Conrad Seoul or the Conrad Bangkok (where the pool is located outdoors).
Other than that, I thought that the pool area was very nice. The same is true for the gym, which comes with all the equipment that you would expect.
When I visited, no other person was using the gym, so I’m sure you can have an amazing workout here without any waiting times.
You may also book spa treatments etc. for a stay at the Conrad Hangzhou, so I’d consider the whole recreation experience to be quite a nice feature.
The Conrad Hangzhou really left a good impression on me. While no comparison to holiday properties like the Conrad Bali or the Conrad Koh Samui, I still thought that staying at the Conrad Hangzhou was an exceptional experience. The hotel offers a great value for the money, a very modern design, a nice lounge, good breakfast and much more. When you are looking for a hotel in Hangzhou, you definitely can’t go wrong with the Conrad!
